21.01.2022 Going overseas and still have a Student Loan? If you have moved overseas and have a Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP), VET Student Loan (VSL) or Trade Support Loan (TSL) debt, you will have the same repayment obligations as those who live in Australia. This applies even if you already live or intend to move overseas for a total of more than six months in any 12-month period. You will need to update your contact details using our online services via myGov. You will also b...e required to advise us of your worldwide income if your income exceeds 25% of the minimum repayment threshold for the income year and make a compulsory repayment. This also applies when you pay an overseas levy towards your debt if you earn over the minimum repayment threshold. If you have a Student Financial Supplement Scheme (SFSS), Student Start-up Loan (SSL) or ABSTUDY Student Start-up Loan (ABSTUDY SSL) debt and go overseas, we will continue to maintain your loan account. Your debt will not be waived and the amount outstanding will continue to be indexed each year until you have paid off your debt. You can still make voluntary repayments when you are overseas. Contact myself to find out how to best manage this process. Always happy to help. Allison 0407575377

21.01.2022 ****PLEASE NOTE - IF CLAIMING JOBKEEPER****** Once you qualify for JobKeeper you are eligible for payments up to the end of September 2020, REGARDLESS of your turnover. You dont stop receiving JobKeeper if your turnover increases. The ONLY time you stop JobKeeper for certain employees is if you have any staff changes, ie: a staff member leaves or you stop employing all together. I have been receiving a large number of queries with clients thinking they no longer qualify as their turnover is back to normal. The INCOME DECLARATION due each month, is merely reporting to the ATO. It DOES NOT CHANGE your eligibility for payments.

18.01.2022 2019 Tax cuts passed. Finally!!

17.01.2022 As we all rush to complete our 2019 Tax returns it is easy to fall into common traps and mistakes. Too often its simple mistakes and misunderstandings that trip people up. While we know most people want to get it right, ATO audits and reviews show that there are five main areas where taxpayers are most likely to get it wrong. The top five mistakes include taxpayers who are:... 1. Leaving out some of their income maybe forgetting a temp job or money earned from the sharing economy 2. Claiming deductions for personal expenses home to work travel, normal clothes or personal phone calls 3. Forgetting to keep receipts or records of their expenses 4. Claiming for something they never paid for often because they think everyone is entitled to a standard deduction 5. Claiming personal expenses for rental properties either claiming deductions for times when they are using their property themselves or are claiming interest on loans used to buy personal assets like a car or boat. Many of the mistakes are avoidable and there are a few things taxpayers can do to make sure their tax time experience is stress-free. As a certified CPA and registered tax agent, Allison can advise you on what you can legitimately claim. Tax can sometimes be tricky, but its not tricky to keep good records. To ensure you dont miss anything on this years tax return, contact Allison Forrest on 0407 575 377

17.01.2022 ****JOBKEEPER REMINDER**** Dont forget to complete your declaration of Income for the month of July 2020 and estimated turnover for the month of August 2020, in order to keep receiving Jobkeeper payments. The sooner you complete the declaration the sooner you will receive Julys Jobkeeper payment. Declarations are due by mid August 2020. This procedure needs to be completed each month up until September 2020 in order to keep receiving your Jobkeeper payments. You do not need to re-qualify. Once you qualify for Jobkeeper you will receive it up until September 2020, regardless of your monthly income.

16.01.2022 2019 TAX HACK #001 ** $30,000 instant asset write-off ** Thinking of purchasing assets for your business? The instant asset write-off threshold has been increased to $30,000 and extended to 30 June 2020.... If you purchase an asset (new or second hand) costing less than $30,000 and it is used or installed ready for use from 7:30pm AEDT on 2 April 2019, you can claim a deduction for the business portion. Different thresholds apply for assets purchased before that date: from 29 January 2019 until before 7.30pm AEDT on 2 April 2019, the threshold is $25,000 before 29 January 2019, the threshold is $20,000. You may purchase and claim a deduction for multiple assets provided each asset is under the relevant threshold. Assets that cost $30,000 each or more cant be immediately deducted. You can continue to deduct them over time using the small business pool. From 2 April 2019, the instant asset write-off has also been expanded to include businesses with a turnover from $10 million to less than $50 million. Remember, as a registered tax agent we can help you with all your tax related questions. To book call Allison 0407 575 377

16.01.2022 Advice: When purchasing a rental property or a new residence and renting out your existing one, PLEASE speak to your accountant first. Please DO NOT rely on the banks tax advice. I have seen so many clients told that they can claim interest on their old principal place of residence when increasing borrowings to pay for their new property. Regardless of whether the security is over your old home, the only interest on loans you can claim is that on the original/loan amount a...t the time of refinance. Banks cannot give tax advice so please dont rely on it. For the right advice talk to Allison 0407 575 377 or pm the page #AAAtaxation

13.01.2022 ****JOBKEEPER REMINDER**** Don’t forget to complete your declaration of Income for the month of June 2020 and estimated turnover for the month of July 2020, in order to keep receiving Jobkeeper payments. The sooner you complete the declaration the sooner you will receive June’s Jobkeeper payment. Declarations are due by mid July 2020. 13.01.2022 SCAM ALERT Scammers have set up a clone of the myGov website to trick you into sharing your login and bank account details, Stay Smart Online says. The scam starts with a phishing email that looks like it is from Medicare, asking you to update your Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) details, so you can start receiving payments for Medicare benefits and claims.... If you click on the link in the email you are taken a replica of the real myGov website. Youll note the URL includes .net instead of .gov.au, which is an indication the website is not a legitimate Australian Government domain! If you input your login details you are directed to also enter your secret security question and answer, before youre taken to the fake Medicare website to input your bank account details. These emails and web pages feature myGov and Medicare design and branding, making them appear legitimate. Remember, clicking on the link and sharing your details gives these scammers access to your personal information, which they then use to steal your money and identity!

03.01.2022 Selling a Luxury Car or providing a car to an employee or related party? When you sell a luxury car in Australia its subject to LCT if you sell it in the course of your business and youre registered or required to be registered for GST. LCT applies in all of the following cases:... - A dealer sells a car to an individual or business and the car passes from the manufacturer (or importer) to the finance company, then to the dealership, then to the end customer each stage is regarded as a separate sale. - A dealer, wholesaler, manufacturer or importer provides a luxury car to an employee, associate or member of the same GST group or GST joint venture. - A car is sold to a Commonwealth, state or territory department, agency or statutory authority (other than when used as an emergency vehicle). - A car that is a capital asset of a business is sold or traded in. - An endorsed public institution sells a car that is a work of art or a collectors piece and the buyer is not an endorsed public institution. Providing a car to an employee or other related party You must pay LCT if you provide a luxury car to an employee (either as a bonus or as part of a salary package) or associate. If you sell a luxury car to your employee, associate or an employee of your associate for less than the market value, or give it to them, the LCT value of the car is its GST-inclusive market value, excluding any LCT payable. If youre a member of a GST group and provide a luxury car to another member of your GST group the LCT liability is payable by the GST representative member. If youre a participant in a GST joint venture and you provide a luxury car to another participant in the GST joint venture the LCT liability is payable by the joint venture operator.
