EMERITUS PROFESSOR JUDY ATKINSON will share insights on Indigenous approaches to Outdoor Health and the need for an Indigenous framework for psychotherapy, counselling and nature-based health practices. Judy’s book ‘Trauma Trails - Recreating Songlines: The transgenerational effects of Trauma in Indigenous Australia’, was shortlisted for an Australian Human Rights Award. Kaye is a Chartered Psychologist of the British Psychological Society, a qualified outdoor professional, experienced researcher, Senior Lecturer, and is leading a new Masters program in Counselling & Outdoor Therapy. Her recent work to develop a Statement of Good Practice on ‘Outdoor Mental Health Interventions’ charts a path to support safety and efficacy. Kaye will share some of the twists and turns to get to this point, and outline future work for outdoor therapy in the UK. . PROFESSOR MIKE GASS will share the journey of Adventure Therapy in the USA and the establishment Outdoor Behavioural Healthcare. Mike wrote the book ‘Adventure Therapy: Therapeutic Applications of Adventure Programming’ (Kendall/ Hunt Publishing 1993), a seminal book that generated worldwide connections. Mike understands the usefulness of language and research when talking with politicians, insurers and the medical field, and has carved an accreditation and certification pathway to increase safety and efficacy in nature-based adventure services in the USA.
