02.01.2022 Whilst Australia has done well with Covid19 due to closing International borders early. There have been failures by some states in the health and economic response. Much of the health and economic downside has occurred when state jurisdictions have not followed agreed national protocols in their response to the crisis. If a state closes its borders unnecessarily and without health logic it decimates the tourism industry, not just in that state but the supply chain that feeds ...it from other states. Where states issue voucher schemes for travel products without allowing access to Australian agents and wholesalers for booking and promoting products it is a double hit to a fragile industry. Domestic tourism is a national ecosystem and may require the states to fund in a coordinated collaborative way. Perhaps GST revenue from tourism could be a way to do it ? See more
