07.01.2022 Greetings everyone! As many of you are no doubt aware, the start to this year has been far from usual due to the impact of COVID-19. The pandemic continues to impact our lives individually and as a community.... Never underestimate the power of a voice over the phone especially during these challenging times as it can be significant for some of us during isolation. ‘Checking in’ on some of our members have given me joy and inspiration to hear that you are keeping the positivity within our community. Many have been in good spirits and keeping a routine, keeping healthy physically & mentally.some even told me to check out the latest Fitness First Les Mills Body Combat virtual gym! How awesome! I am very grateful to know that you are keeping connected and supporting family, members, friends & the community. We are all in this together, striving for better health for all. Casting forward, we have already started planning for our next event, which we are hopeful (depends on the government restrictions) to be held in around October/November 2020. Stay tuned for more info and we are very much looking forward to seeing you face-to-face again! Please continue to keep in touch and please keep safe. Love & light, Christina #InThisTogether #seeyousoon

05.01.2022 Today our AAFA President, Christina Chia was delighted to be invited by celebrity chef, Lillie Giang & founder of The Food Affectionists, to her home kitchen for a "Zong Zi" Facebook Live cooking party. "Zong Zi" is Mandarin (or "Bak Zhang" in Hokkien) for sticky rice dumpling and it is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. It is typically eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival, or also known as the "Dumpling Festival", which tak...es place on the 5th day of the 5th month in the Lunar Calendar. This year, the festival falls on 25 June. We are very grateful to chef Lillie and her amazing mother for their passion in connecting the community via food and, more importantly, for continuing the rich cultural traditions of making the "Zong Zi" during this festival. Check out a short video of the cooking session and Christina's first take on wrapping the sticky rice dumpling. For the full video, check out Lillie's Facebook group "The Food Affectionists". #dumplingfestival #ricedumpling #celebration

On behalf of all AAFA members, the committee extends our deepest condolences to Cedric’s family. To those who knew Cedric as a member of the AAFA family or as his friends, he was a quietly spoken, charming, witty and funny fellow, who is present at all AAFA functions. Our thanks to his untiring contributions to the Association. He will be sadly missed. May he arrest in Peace.
