This year's Bivouac is being held by 622 Squadron and is planned to run at Crawford Forest, in late August.... #throwbackthursday #602sqn #622sqn #AAFC #bivouac #Woodside #CrawfordForest

24.01.2022 What can Air Force Cadets teach you? Flying! An obvious one: the AAFC is a youth organisation which promotes aviation knowledge. All cadets in the AAFC are allocated at least one Power Experience Flight (PEX) per year. There is a flying scholarship program which eligible cadets can apply for; they can choose powered or gliding, and can be flying solo before they are driving cars solo! Cadets are also sometimes lucky enough to get to go for rides in RAAF aircraft. The AAFC ru...ns activities with flight simulators regularly, and many squadrons have flight simulation computers. All cadets learn about aviation as part of their weekly training. #training #AAFC #aviation #flying #602sqn

20.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: Cadet Initiated Activities. Every year, Squadrons are able to apply to run a Cadet Initiated Activity (CIA). These activities must be initiated by cadets. An experienced senior cadet will write up the application. The whole squadron of cadets is invited to offer suggestions on what they would like to do.... Over the years, 622 Squadron has participated in many CIA's. Hovercrafting, Kayaking, Abseiling, Escape Rooms, Caving and more! 19.01.2022 What can Air Force Cadets teach you? Self-Discipline! Now we know that can sound boring, but its actually a great skill to have! Self-discipline helps you to be great at whatever you set your mind to. It will help you in sports, hobbies, school, friendships - basically in everything you do in everyday life. Cadets develop their self-discipline in many different ways, but one of the biggest ways in their Drill and Ceremonial Training. Cadets learn to hold themselves at precise... positions and respond instantaneously to orders. This makes for some pretty awesome teamwork, but also requires a lot of self-discipline. Plus, once you've got the hang of it, you look pretty awesome! #training #602sqn #drillandceremonial #AAFC #selfdiscipline #skillsforlife #teamwork

09.01.2022 What can Air Force Cadets teach you? Camouflage! Cadets learn Field Craft principles during weekly training. At least once a year, Squadrons will run a Bivouac weekend to exercise their knowledge of Field Craft. Over the weekend, cadets and staff camp in the field, participating in numerous exercises. Camouflage is a key principle of Field Craft, teaching cadets how to stay unseen in the bush. Field Craft teaches cadets camping skills and promotes an interest in the outdoors.... It also teaches teamwork, leadership, self-reliance and communication skills. #training #602sqn #AAFC #fieldcraft #camouflage

02.01.2022 What can Air Force Cadets teach you? Tent Care! Cadets are trained in how to take care of tents during their weekly training. On weekend activities, particularly Bivouacs, cadets practice setting up different kinds of tents. While tent care seems simple, in cold, windy or rainy environments, it is imperative to know how to set up a tent well if you want a good nights sleep. With "hootchies" it is always a challenge to pitch your tent, as can be seen in the photos!... #training #AAFC #tents #602sqn
