17.01.2022 How many components have been restored on DAP Beaufort A9-141? Warbirds Online recently visited the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre - QLD to see the hard w...ork completed by the team at Caboolture & the effort to progress the goal to get the Beaufort airworthy. Work has continued on the wings with the starboard one due to be fitted imminently with all the mounts finished. The Port wing is nearing completion with just the leading edge skin to be manufactured & refitted prior to mounting it on the aircraft. Both of the aircrafts ailerons have been completed & are ready to be fitted when the outer wing panels are in place. Both oil tanks have commenced restoration and will soon be ready for fitting. Work has commenced on the rebuilding of the main fuel tanks. One side of the aircrafts oil coolers consisting of two items are being pressure and flow tested to ensure they are fully serviceable and the other two are also about to be tested once returned will be fitted to the wings along with all the associated plumbing. The gun rails have also been restored ready for refitting to the wings. The molds have been made for the Perspex wing tips & these will be manufactured shortly. A major milestone in the Beauforts progress is that the work in rebuilding a set of engines for the aircraft has commenced with the dispatch of several crankshafts for the Pratt & Whitney R-1830-S3C4-G Twin Wasp radial piston engines to Peter Brooke at Historical Aircraft Engines in Brisbane. There are many more photos of the restored components on our website at http://bit.ly/dapbeaufort AAHC Qld welcomes financial donations to fund the ongoing restoration of the Beaufort and should you wish to volunteer contact the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre - QLD via their website. #WWIIaircraft #keepthemflying #aviation #avgeek #aviationphoto #aviationdaily #aviationphotography #aviationnerd #warbirds #warbirdrestoration #Beaufort

15.01.2022 Robert James GOW (Bob). Bob was born on 16/12/1919. He was a long-time "Friend of the Beaufort", 'A.A.H.C. Member', until he passed away on 19/08/2017, aged 97 years. Our condolences to Norma (Bob’s wife), to you Tom (his son-who informed us), your wife and to all of your Father’s Family. On the 30th June 1941 Bob enlisted in the Airforce, becoming a Leading Air Craftsman & Fitter Armourer, with the 100 Squadron seeing active service in Papua Guinea’s Milne Bay & Good E...nough Island. Bob would often relay many stories about his time in service, and spoke highly of the men he served with, the planes he worked on, flew in. He continued his love and dedication to his servicemen as a proud supporter and contributor to the reconstruction of a Beaufort bomber at the Caboolture museum. Bob would often recite stories of his times in New Guinea, sometimes of tragedies, sometimes of the struggles and sometimes of the simple things, like the day when the Papuan locals came down to watch and laugh at a bunch of white fellas’ backsides in the shower block. It’s hard to imagine what so many Australians did for us back in those days. And I am proud to say Bob is one of those who contributed, his effort and friends lost stayed with him forever. Service details 37626 R.A.A.F. Mustering Fitter Armourer. Enlisted 30th June 1941. Active service Milne Bay, Goodenough Island, with No. 100 Squadron, Beaufort Squadron, October 1942 to Dec 1943, also at Cairns April-June 1942. *Thanks Tom for your time to e-mail the above to us & the two pictures of your late father.* **A cheque for $350.00 was sent to A.A.H.C. from the Estate of the Late Robert Gow, being his Mortality Entitlement Payment, made out from 'Cabra Vale Ex-Active Servicemen's Club Limited' - Cabra-Vale Diggers. A very big thank you.**

10.01.2022 "I have been sent these photographs by a lady who is hoping to identify the airman who's not wearing his cap. Known only as "Digger" and believed to have been Australian, the Airman befriended a family in Greenisland, (Greenisland is a town in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies 7 miles north-east of Belfast and 3 miles south-west of Carrickfergus. The town is on the coast of Belfast Lough and is named after a tiny islet to the west, the Green Island.) Belfast and married a local girl. The background in these pictures may help identify locations. - This was in Northern Ireland during WWII. Any information would be very much appreciated." From Andy Glenfield. 30/06/19

06.01.2022 Help to identify Australian Airmen One of the great experiences that come with my volunteer work @ the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre (Qld) Inc. Caboolture is sorting and preparing photos and items for display. This is my favourite photo bought at a market in Caboolture for the princely sum of $15.00 and to me characterises Australians and an attitude to war; trained professionals but with distinctive characteristics. I am asking for your help to identify these men... & any information about their location, the history of the aircraft and details about this particular squadron. We believe the aircraft is a WW2 Vultree Vengance; Call sign NH; used as dive bombers with a crew of 2. The aircraft were USA made; operated from 1941 to 1948, mainly based in PNG and used by both Australian and United Kingdom Air Forces. Any information you could provide would be of great help. We are preparing for an open day at the Caboolture Airfield April 20/21 & I am planning for the 'photo to take pride of place' at Hangar 104. Leonie See more

03.01.2022 You can’t have too many CAC Boomerangs. Ian Baker is restoring several CAC Boomerang series aircraft & the scope and scale of his operation has expanded conside...rably. Warbirds Online caught up with Ian recently & in addition to Ian’s previously reported personal restorations of CA-12’s A46-89 and A46-90 and customer owned CA-13 A46-140, Ian has acquired CA-13s A46-126, A46-128, A46-158 and static restoration CA-13, A46- 160. Ian also has a large inventory of parts and components to assist in his #Warbird restoration work. Previously there had been a belief that very little wing structure survived post war scrapping of Boomerangs however Ian has amassed quite a number of original Boomerang wing structural sections. Ian is currently in the process of constructing a purpose built facility in NSW to allow for the restorations to progress in a more streamlined manner. There are not enough serviceable components for all of the airframes and Ian has a methodical approach to reproducing items from original patterns in batches as required both for his own needs and those of other Boomerang restorers. Several of these aircraft are for sale & if you are interested in acquiring a Boomerang you can contact Ian Baker for more details. Want to know more about the task of restoring a CAC Boomerang? Then read news more about Ian’s work on our website at http://bit.ly/2XfuUtR. #WWIIaircraft #keepthemflying #aviation #aviationgeek #aviationdaily #aviationphotography #ww2planes #ww2aircraft #Warbirds #avgeek #warbirdrestoration #CACBoomerang #WarbirdNews #historicaviation #cac #militaryplane
