23.01.2022 It was wonderful to see the different designs that the cadets presented for their Balsa Plane Design Challenge. Cadets were all given a single piece of balsa that they needed to use to create a balsa plane of their own design....the only restriction being that they could not use more material than they were supplied with. There were original designs incorporating v-tails and winglets, other designs that drew their inspiration from the Eurofighter and others that were recreations of favourite planes. The best part, the cadets had fun!!

22.01.2022 Forest Lake Squadron Cadets and Families Light Up the Dawn for ANZAC Day 25th April 2020. Even though we could not be physically together this year, we could be in spirit. We Will Remember Them.... Lest We Forget.

22.01.2022 It was wonderful to see our cadets back for Term 2 Parade night on Wednesday 22 April. Our virtual parade nights are giving us all something to look forward to each week and a chance to see our friends. This week we talked about the ANZAC Spirt and what it means to us and even though we can't march this year, everyone is looking forward to the Driveway Dawn Service. ... Our musically inclined cadets have been practicing and will be playing live from their driveways. This a a time for all of us to remember those that have made sacrifices for us. Lest We Forget.

19.01.2022 Cadets put in a great effort on Saturday practicing their drill in preparation for Group Review in October. Thank you to Mrs.Koops our Band Officer who presented the squadron with new flag covers complete with gold tassels and Mr. Koops for his unbeatable rope skills.

18.01.2022 Well done Cadet Savage!

17.01.2022 The cadets had a fun virtual parade night this week. During the first part of the evening, the cadets learnt about rockets, how they are powered, the difference in liquid and solid fuel and how Newtons Third Law applies to rockets. They also made a straw rocket, where they then measured the distance it flew when launched. The cadets all did well and built great looking rockets with the longest distance travelled being 8m, well done Cpl Koops! There are many well bandaged p...ets and stuffed toys in many households as the cadets continued to work on their First Aid Class 4 badges. It was another great night of fun, friendship and flying! 15.01.2022 Cadets supported the RSL Forest Lake & Districts Sub Branch as the Catafalque party. For those cadets that couldn't attend during the day, the squadron was held a commemoration during their parade that evening.

15.01.2022 Conducting Virtual Parade nights hasn't stopped the cadets from participating in a variety of hands-on activities. This week, cadets learnt about aerodynamics and lift by building an aerofoil and testing it in their "wind-tunnel". This was a great practical activity that demonstrated how changes in thrust and angle of attack impact on lift. Cadets also completed their First Aid Class 4 Badges, thank you to our Education Officer, Mrs. Biggs.... Next week the cadets will be sharing their design project "scratch built Balsa Planes"....everyone is looking forward to seeing what the cadets have created!!

15.01.2022 Look at the amazing work Flight Lieutenant Hayley Moulds is doing. She is such an inspiration!!

15.01.2022 Well done Cadet Savage leading a march on your street today for ANZAC Day. You did Forest Lake Squadron proud.

14.01.2022 The cadets were excited to be back parading at Archerfield after parading on-line due to Covid restrictions. It was a busy night with drill, a balsa plane Air S...how where the cadets shared the balsa planes they created while we were parading on-line ,as well as welcoming three inductees officially into the squadron and recognising the educational achievements of the cadets during Term 2. Congratulations to all of the cadets for their hard work under unusual and difficult circumstances and thank you to all of our parents for supporting the cadets during Term 2. Term 3 Recruitments are now open for the Forest Lake Squadron of the Australian Air League. If you have a child with a passion for aviation, this is the ideal time for you to come along and learn more about the Australian Air League (AAL) and how your child can become involved. Message us for more information.

13.01.2022 Forest Lake Squadron Drum Corps getting ready for Group Review.

10.01.2022 For those Cadets that were unable to attend the Remembrance Day Commemoration at Forest Lake in the morning of November 11th, the squadron held a commemoration during the parade that evening. We were fortunate to have a number of special guests join us to share what Remembrance Day means to them. Mr. Doug Haarhoff talked with the cadets about his parents and what they did during the war. He talked with the cadets about the Battle of Britain and how his mother worked in the De... Havilland aircraft factory and how the work she did contributed to the war effort. Most importantly he reminded us that we all remember people differently but that is import to remember them. We were also joined by Mr. Dan Baldwin from the RSL Forest Lake & District Sub Branch who thanked the Cadets that formed the Catafalque party for the Commemoration earlier in the day. He also talked about his experiences a Squadron Leader in Logistics and the strong and lasting friendships that he formed with the people he served with. Mr. Greg Amey who is also part of the RSL Forest Lake & District Sub Branch and a Military Re-enactor joined the squadron wearing a WWI army uniform. He brought with him military memorabilia and talked with the cadets about how the soldiers would have used the equipment. The cadets also had the opportunity to engage with a display of military uniforms, memorabilia and books brought in by one of our Officers, Mr. Berrett. Thank you to all of our visitors for coming along on Wednesday night and sharing your experiences and stories and allowing the cadets the opportunity to immerse themselves in what it would have been like for our service people. It is through these types of experiences and the sharing of stories that we will remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for us.

10.01.2022 It's always wonderful see the cadets come up to receive their badges at parade. It is a great recognition of their hard work. This term we have also welcomed some new members to the squadron. As part of their induction, they learnt how to make a balsa chuck glider, these ones all flew superbly!! Well done!
