25.01.2022 Well done to Jakob, Jonah, and Kael who were featured on Studio 10 yesterday with Australian Air League - Moorebank Squadron!
24.01.2022 Continuing on from our recent #MeetTheOfficers profile of the Australian Air Leagues Chief Commissioner, today we have a short profile on the Australian Air Le...ague NSW Group Executive Commissioner, Lieutenant Commissioner Jeffrey Remington DSA MSA (N8228). 1. Date of Joining and what inspired you to do so? 10th April 1972. My godfather was the person who inspired me to join, he was a member fo the Royal Australian Air Force and a member of the air league as well. Also like many 10 year olds I wanted to fly! 2. Whats your favourite part of the Australian Air League? Meeting people, watching and assisting fellow air league members to grow and achieve greater horizons whether it was in education or simply in a general sense and seeing them become young men. 3. Whats your fondest memory associated with the Australian Air League? Travelling to Melbourne for the Federal Reviews by train and meeting other members from across New South Wales but also meeting new members whilst being billeted out with families from Victorian squadrons and becoming friends with them. Friendship is an important aspect of the league and so many people forget that. 4. Whats next, any big ideas for the Australian Air League moving into the future? Combining a state into one group was an experience and one I had never thought of doing within my first year as Group Executive Commissioner, and then came COVID-19 which has been the biggest challenge to date in a number of aspects trying to get specific information from the governments is not easy, but having learnt that a number of the younger members have embraced and are engaging on a number IT platforms is encouraging for the future. #volunteering #cadets #truelocal #lovelivo #moorebankblackbirds
24.01.2022 Over the Australia Day long weekend, Padstow Cadet Keith Dao traveled with Moorebank Squadron up to Tamworth for the annual Country Music Festival. Well done Keith, you did a great job representing the Squadron!
24.01.2022 Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation and pause of Australian Air League operations, we thought itd be a great time to introduce a new weekly post, #MeetTheOff...icers where every Monday you'll get the chance to learn a little more about our hardworking volunteers and what drives them. First up, we have our Officer Commanding, Commissioner Raymond Claude Bell OAM 1. Date of Joining and what inspired you to do so? I was 12 years old when joining on 15 November 1944. A friend asked me to come along and give it a go and I loved every bit of it. Over 75 years later I havent looked back and am still here! 2. What's your favourite part of squadron? I love watching the boys achieving their goals and chasing their dreams of becoming pilots, mechanics, defence personnel, etc. But also to help them along the way is a real privilege! 3. What's your fondest memory associated with the air league or any funny stories? My most interesting memory comes from the 1954 Royal Tour, the league travelled to Katoomba to line the streets for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I remember the Duke of Edinburgh telling one of my boys "Don't drop that bloody flag son" as he was unsteady with it. Because this was on a workday I called in sick, not thinking anything of it and the next day, a picture of me saluting the Queen was splashed across the front page of the newspaper! As I was meant to be sick that day the boss had a little chat with me about the matter leading to my infamous line of "I believe the Queen is a little more important than work!" and was let off with a warning. 4. What's next, any big ideas for the squadron moving into the future? Moving forward I'll place an emphasis on growing the squadron band with the new drum upgrade happening soon thanks to funding we secured from the NSW Premier. Ill continue building the squadrons community profile with publicity in the local newspaper but also with organisations such as Liverpool City Council and Sydney Airport to showcase the talent of our boys in the wider community. Each and every time we go out representing the league Im immensely proud of all our members who wear their uniform with pride. #volunteering #moorebankblackbirds
24.01.2022 This morning across South-Western Sydney, members of Padstow Squadron stood and held both the Australian and the Squadron Flags from their respective driveways while other members stood with candles flickering in the early morning air to #LightUpTheDawn. Across the George's River in Wattle Grove, neighbouring Australian Air League - Moorebank Squadron had a lone piper in Wattle Grove playing a lament which was carried by the brisk morning air and could be heard many suburbs away. Padstow Squadron will always remember them... #StandAtDawn #ANZACatHome #ANZACDay2020 #ANZACspirit #honouringtheirsacrifice #salutingtheirservice
24.01.2022 Could all members, parents and supporters of Padstow Squadron please read through the attached letter from the Australian Air League's Chief Commissioner James Dixon outlining the league's position in relation to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. The key points arising from the letter is from this coming Monday (23rd March) onwards THERE WILL BE A PAUSE ON ALL AUSTRALIAN AIR LEAGUE ACTIVITIES, meaning squadron parade nights, camps, flying lessons, etc or any event w...here 3 or more Air League members are likely to be present physically will not be allowed to proceed at the present time. The NSW Group Quartermaster store will also be shut. This measure will be in place until the pause of activities is reviewed on Monday 20th April. This means for us our squadron night last night was our last weekly Tuesday meeting for the immediate future. If you do have any questions feel free to reach out to Squadron OC Mr Bell - (02) 9153 7415
23.01.2022 NEW UPDATE (20th July): In response to the dynamic situation posed by COVID-19, Padstow Squadron will observe a three-week delay in our planned resumption of face-to-face meetings, meaning the re-commencement date of Tuesday 21st July will now be pushed back until Tuesday 11th August. Important Update This morning Officer Commanding Mr Bell received permission from City of Canterbury Bankstown Council for Padstow Squadron to return and resume weekly squadron nights at Endea...vour Hall. This in conjunction with approval from the Australian Air League NSW Group means we can return to face-to-face operations with social distancing practices and preventative measures implemented on Tuesday 21th July, which is next Tuesday! So mark that date on your calendars and start counting down the days because before you know it we'll be back to normal! We look forward to seeing all our cadets upon our return with new and potential members also welcome to come along and experience our program, contact Officer Commanding Mr Bell for more information - (02) 9153 7415, [email protected] Finally, on behalf of Mr Bell and all the Squadron Staff, we thank everyone for their engagement and cooperation as we went about transitioning to online air league through our e-squadrons and your commitment week after week to come online to experience our modified program.

18.01.2022 Back by popular demand, weve brought back our #MeetTheOfficers Series for a special edition. This week we have a short profile on the Australian Air Leagues C...hief Commissioner, James Dixon (V17789). 1. Date of Joining and what inspired you to do so? 14th August 1975. Like many 10 year olds, I was fascinated by planes. Many of my friends at the time were joining the scouts, but I wanted to do something different. 2. Whats your favourite part of the Australian Air League? Meeting people - attending squadron parades and flying. As I have also been a Field Commissioner at both Group and Federal - I guess I also like drill! 3. Whats your fondest memory associated with the Australian Air League? One of my fondest memories is the first time I went flying - which probably wouldve been in about 1976 in a Cessna 172 from Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne. This was the first time I was ever in a plane and I remember it very clearly. Another memory is attending an ANZAC day parade in the late 1970s, where I got to see many Word War I veterans march - I now feel very privileged to have seen these veterans. 4. Whats next, any big ideas for the Australian Air League moving into the future? COVID-19 has been a big challenge for everyone in the Air League - but it has also shown what we can do as an organisation. Some of the initiatives that have been implemented by squadrons such as Moorebank I would like to see continue. Maybe we can set up a virtual squadron for people that live in regional and remote areas that wouldn't otherwise be able to attend Air League. #volunteering #cadets #truelocal #lovelivo #moorebankblackbirds

07.01.2022 This week in the #MeetTheOfficers series is our Public Relations Officer and second longest serving member after Mr Bell, Trainee Officer Lachlan Hyde (N21432).... 1. Date of Joining and what inspired you to do so? 17th April 2009, exactly one month after my 8th birthday. Ive been surrounded by aviation and the league my whole life with my grandfather being Mr Bell, and my dad being a cadet in his youth, so it was always an inevitable that Id join but Ive stuck around for over 10 years so far and dont intend on leaving any time soon. 2. Whats your favourite part of squadron? I enjoy all aspects of squadron but getting out and about in the community at events is without a doubt my favourite part, its just such a great feeling. Representing the league and speaking with people from all walks of life, and its incredible who you end up running into and the connections so many have with our organisation. 3. Whats your fondest memory associated with the air league? In all honesty Ive loved every minute of my time in the Australian Air League, from the people Ive met and friendships made across the state and the country to the incredible experiences Ive had. Marching behind the Governor of New South Wales as an 8 year old on ANZAC Day to running down the runway of Australias busiest airport, supporting our veterans at commemoration services and our seniors at gala concerts, to bringing joy to the young and young at heart during Christmas leading Santa through Liverpool. Traveling to faraway towns and villages where every man and his dog has come out to cheer you on, thats what makes it incredible. And I cant forget that one time I taught Richard Reid how to fly in a simulator. Experiences money truly cant buy, memories collected to look back on over a lifetime. 4. Whats next, any big plans for the squadron moving into the future? Ive only just started my air league career as an officer now and I cant wait to see where it takes me, the squadron and the league as a whole is such a fantastic organisation which shapes young people into the leaders of tomorrow and I would love to give that opportunity to as many as possible. #volunteering #cadets #moorebankblackbirds
