25.01.2022 I AM/ WE ARE (a free performance event) A community theatre project that examines the often unrecognised lives of... Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities of the Western suburbs of Melbourne. As part of the Inclusion, Identity, and Connection program of the City of Wyndham, this one-a-half hour of storytelling through theatre and performance will connect us with the lives of migrants, refugees, young people, women, workers, students, and next generation Australians who consider this country a new, temporary, or permanent home. 13.01.2022 Australia Asia Performance Community inc or AAPC situates research and creative practice within this region of Australia and the Pacific. As the term Asia(n) or Australia(n) become more hyphenated and globalised, we will be sensitive to other imagined or constructed forms of Asian-ness and Australian-ness. These include the understanding of multi-/inter-/trans- national cultures and groups interacting in this region. But the main focus of AAPC is to understand and examine the... performances and lived experience of Asian cultures, heritage, and diasporic communities in Australasia. As Australia interacts with the rest of the world, AAPC seeks to understand the uneasy relationship and multiple flows of people, ideas, and cultures between this region and Asia through the field of theatre & performance, practice, and research. AAPC seeks to establish a network within academic and multicultural collectives in Australia. We see the need to locate our research and creative projects not only inside a university but also within the larger Asian and Australian communities. These include cities, festivals, homes, places of worship, museums, galleries, refugee camps, suburbia; regional, public, indigenous heritage sites; and virtual spaces. AAPC is currently developing projects in Performance Curation, Multi-/Inter-/Trans- National Theatres and Community Performances, and Performance as Practice and Research. We are also building partnerships with community groups, research centres, local and national governments, and other not-for-profit organisations and individual artists/researchers in addressing the challenges set by a global, multicultural, and diverse Australia and Asia-Pacific.
