23.01.2022 While waiting for the finalisation of the ASCOM driver and clear weather to test the SP3 I thought I'de test the Anycubic Chiron's famed build plate volume. This is the truss mid section ring sandwich cores for carbon fibre wrapping. Also the secondary hub assembly and spider vane mock up. This is the beginning of a 10" F4 custom astrograph that will form part of the range the Academy will sell early to mid 2021 if your interested don't hesitate to get in contact

22.01.2022 The new QHY600 arrived this week and is one of the next pieces of the puzzle. This total overhaul is by no means the end of the overhaul!!!

22.01.2022 Recently the cast aluminium thread decided to strip itself on the EQ8 DEC clutch. In true fashion a better and more sturdy replacement was fabricated and will never strip again! Astronomy Academy can assist with custom machining jobs you might have so shoot us a message and let's talk!

22.01.2022 Well what a year, one for the books you could say but I find myself at the end of the year thanking how lucky I've been. This year I've had to pivot the business, ive learnt new skills and met new people all in all a good as it can get. To all that have supported the academy I thank you more than words can say. I look forward to working with you all in 2021!

17.01.2022 Weather has been cruddy and the QHY11 is off to a new home so we have been super busy! Starpoint SP250CT update: Top cage of the Carbon fibre truss newts is pretty much together. Work continues on node design however almost got it right. Carbon fibre fabric arrived ready to start the 3d print composite.... Starpoint SP3 update: Version 5 test candidate to be fabricated this weekend some changes were made for greater focuser tube stabilisation. My OCD wasn't pleased with how Version 4 operated. Some pretty big news is afoot as well. Im working on something and will be releasing it shortly.... stay tuned!

16.01.2022 Adapter fabricated to mate up the QHY11 and filters to the Test Mule 8" F4. 14.01.2022 Well... I made it although not everything worked as planned, it still worked! Now its time to tune it up get it reliable and pound out images again!

13.01.2022 Been a crazy little weekend, the team was in the workshop working on the Starpoint 3 focuser then backed up with dinner and collimation workshop. We also have three mounts in for service including belt modification and bearing replacement plus the Academy's special attention.

12.01.2022 Starpoint 3, Rev 3 you have served well and taught me lots! But it's time for pasture as Rev 4 will be the first to mounted on a 200mm F4 Newtonian. Stay tuned! . . . .... . #love #instagood #photooftheday #follow #astrophotograpy #deepspace #night #nightsky #natgeospace #space #longexposure #stars #nature #nightphotography #astronomy #newmilkyway #ig_nightphotography #universe #universetoday #southernskies #australia #nebula #telescope #astronomy_academy #skywatcheraustralia #spaceclub #highpointscientific #bintel_astronomy #amaturephotography #amatureastrophotographyezine See more

11.01.2022 Working on the ASCOM GUI and mounting plates for the 200mm F4 test mule. Not long now until real testing under the stars!

09.01.2022 Test fitting of V4 focuser and V2 mounting collar with quick release and manual rotation. So close to field testing now

08.01.2022 Something you won't see from me often at all. Hope you enjoy.

08.01.2022 Beginning of the quick release 360 deg rotator collar. Almost ready to mount up onto the 8" F4 test mule, with the ASCOM driver in development testing should commence hopefully this week! . . .... . . #love #instagood #photooftheday #follow #astrophotograpy #deepspace #night #nightsky #natgeospace #photography #space #longexposure #stars #nature #universe #nightphotography #astronomy #newmilkyway #ig_nightphotography #universe #universetoday #southernskies #australia #nebula #telescope #astronomy_academy #skywatcheraustralia #spaceclub #highpointscientific See more

07.01.2022 I think I'm in love with the @qhyccd_astropic new QHY600. Its an amazing camera that as im starting to get the hang of using it shows more and more potential. RCW 57 - Lady Liberty This image is panel 1 Darks calibrated only with only 4x 600 second exposures for each narrowband channel. This is the equivalent of a 40 minute exposure......... Im shooting in Bortle 6 urban skies in Perth West Australia and at the moment we are deep into summer with night time temps at 25 to 30 deg the QHY600 reached -10 at 85% -94% power which meets its design specifications. I am impressed!!! @skywatcheraustralia 12" F5 riding an EQ8 Starpoint CFW9 Ascom controlled Starpoint 90mm Helical focus OAG Baader narrowband 47mm unmounted @qhyccd_astropic QHY600

04.01.2022 Not the best, but here is an edit of the Spanish Dancer - NGC1365 In-between high cloud and hardware issues 3.5hrs of 600 sec RGB channels at the Pankee Observatory
