20.01.2022 The Queensland Government website states: ‘For children under 18 who do not live in the same household as their parents or one of their parents- leaving the place of residence is allowed to continue existing arrangements for access to, and contact between, parents and children. However, if you enter Greater Brisbane you must follow the same lockdown rules when you return home. Only leave your home for essential reasons and wear a mask.’ Contact us if you need further advice d...uring the lockdown period. #familylawyer #familylaw #brisbanelockdown #COVID19

20.01.2022 Domestic violence allegations and parenting disputes often go hand in hand. You need to focus on the end-game.

19.01.2022 The beginning of a new school year can be particularly challenging for separating parents. Here’s our tips to make the process smoother for you, your ex-partner, and most importantly your children. Getting the school supplies sorted is usually a nightmare for any parent, but having two households can make it even more confusing. No one wants to be that parent who sends their child off to a new class with no supplies, or wasteful double-ups of everything! If sharing the... cost is a problem, our usual suggestion is one parent elects to sort out the book list (pencils, glue-sticks and other consumables) and the other parent organises new shoes, school bags and lunchboxes. Both households may need to buy school uniforms, depending on the agreed parenting arrangements and the how and when of regular change-overs. Pickups and drop-offs, and arranging after school care, can also be problematic. Make sure both households are on the same page, and don’t assume anything. Put it in writing (for example text messages, emails, or a parenting app like Our Family Wizard or 2Houses) to make sure there’s no confusion about who’s responsible for what. That very first day of school can be incredibly stressful for our children, especially if they are starting prep or grade 7 this year. It’ll be even harder for children who are trying to get used to two households instead of one. It’s important that we do everything we can to show that they are loved and supported. While it may not always be possible, your children will benefit if both parents can be there on day 1, to assure them that they are loved and supported above all else. Lastly, don’t forget about the village that surrounds you. Schools are great for developing your family’s ties to friends and the community. Being a single parent can sometimes be made much easier by having that network, so get involved with your school and with extra-curricular activities. These activities will also give your children that all-important sense of community which will also help them through this difficult stage. #backtoschool #BackToSchool2021 #newschoolyear #coparenting #separatedparenting #separatedparents #village #localvillage #familylaw #familylawyer #familylawyerbrisbane #northbrisbane #northbrisbanelawyer #legaladvice #familymatters #northbrisbanebusiness #lovingnundah #4014biz #banyobuzz #banyolawyer #VirginiaLawyer #nundahlawyer #wavellheightslawyer

16.01.2022 It’s very wise to get proper legal advice before getting a will done. A cheap will usually means you’re not going to get proper advice about all the relevant aspects of making a will, or your unique circumstances. Superannuation is something I always discuss with all of my will clients, as well as several other legal issues most people wouldn’t always know. At $440 my fees may not be the cheapest, but you will get proper legal advice that may save your loved ones unnecessary heartache and expensive legal fees.

03.01.2022 This is a great example of how to react to the improper use of police powers. Stay calm, ask for clarification, be ready to film the incident for your own protection, and no matter what do not get aggressive because that will often lead to a valid reason for arrest. The social isolation and distancing rules are vitally important, but it is disappointing to see Queensland Police using these rules for ulterior purposes, to harass innocent people who are exercising protest rights or simply being on the street. This just undermines the community’s trust in the police force.

01.01.2022 When do you think a child can choose which parent they want to live with? The court applies a two-fold test, but what do you think?
