12.01.2022 Circuit Excel S.A. Young Guns Drive Day Yesterday was my first experience of driving a Toyota 86 Race Car. Although we encountered a few problems through the day, the data and knowledge I gained from Dean Canto was surreal and I will definitely be keeping note for next time I find myself in one of these race cars. 12.01.2022 A ripper weekend of racing! Final (10 Laps) - At the end of my first lap, I found myself in P6, but with clean moves and making my stance, I was able to climb up to P2, before the first of two safety cars made an appearance. I then had an awesome restart, with James Benford, on my toes for the last two laps of the race, to take my first ever Circuit Excel S.A. 2nd place finish! This was a fantastic result for Dad and I, we couldn’t be happier! ... This was one of those weekends for us where we had some little lows, but massive highs. Thanks to Misch's Excel Garage for your expertise help with Dad and I on my race car this weekend. This result certainly would have not been possible! The overall weekend championship result’s are yet to be been published, stay tuned! Finally, I would like to thank my Dad, Stephen Oliver, it has been 2 long seasons of development, we are finally getting there. 12.01.2022 Wait, so how many fingers do we put up? What an amazing first day of racing at The Bend Motorsport Park today! After going into the weekend with no practice it was always going to be interesting for qualifying. We took a gamble on setup and it turned out somewhat alright. Finishing in 4th place was our best ever qualifying finish to date. Race 1 - Awesome launch off the line soon turned into a mistake from myself missing 3rd gear and then getting swamped by a pack of cars. I ...fell back to 9th and eventually made my way back to P5. After some post race penalties from a few cars in front, I was elevated to 3rd place! Race 2 - Again a nice start off the line retaining P3 and finished the race for my first offical 3rd place finish in the Circuit Excel S.A. State Championship Series! Another 3 races tomorrow! See’s me starting out of P3 for race 3 Shoutout to Misch's Mechanical for helping Dad out on changing the starter motor minutes before race 1, couldn’t have done it without you! 02.01.2022 Circuit Excel Team Enduro 2020 At The Bend Motorsport Park It’s taken a few days to really take in the events that occurred last Saturday and to put it simple, it has become a massive weekend of firsts!... First - Teaming up with one of the best young racers in this land 16 yr old Joel Johnson. First - Qualifying was huge, I was able to secure my first pole position in my Penrite Oil Excel by 6 tenths to my nearest competitor. Joel’s qualifying, he narrowly missed out by only 2 one hundredths of a second. Gigantic effort considering he was driving my car and due to covid had not been in a race car for nearly a year! First - R1 Joel started in my qualifying position of P1, he had an awesome start holding onto P1 facing some pretty big names behind him. As we pitted for a driver change, we were leading the race, unfortunately the car stalled on entry to the box and then the start motor failed, with Dad having to push start my car, we lost a huge amount of time, coming back on track in P3. With the racing gods now back on our side, a safety car came out, bunching up the field. I managed to race my car back to the front and secure Joel’s and mine first ever win In Circuit Excel! Between races 1 and 2, we had just over an hours break. On investigation of going over the car, we found that we had multiple finger nail cracks right through both brake rotors and that they needed to be replaced. Many thanks to Damian Traum of Nick Scaife Racing going above and beyond to replace my rotors, without his assistance, we wouldn’t have made the grid for race 2. Race 2 - I was in the car for the race start, after a while, I started to feel a issue with my steering. Into the pit stop / driver change we were P1. We had a good run and came back on track out in front, unfortunately the steering issues developed to get worse throughout the race, losing a massive amount of top end speed, Joel was able to nurse the car home to a P3 finish. After a thorough week long investigation, P1’s car was disqualified from the race 2 results, elevating our car to a P2 finish. First - This gave Joel and I, our first ever Circuit Excel event Win! This was an awesome way to end a very tough crazy year for all. Can’t wait to see what 2021 holds!
