16.01.2022 13 November is World Kindness Day and this years focus is on empathy. World Kindness Day is all about acceptance, diversity and love, take the opportunity to perform a random act of kindness towards others.

15.01.2022 We are pleased to announce that from Monday 16 November the AASW's committees and groups are able to meet again Face to Face (following local COVID rules of course)! In SA events (CPD training and Practice Groups) currently planned for online will remain that way for the rest of the month but Networking Groups are welcome to start meeting in person again from Monday.

11.01.2022 SA restrictions info for social work South Australia is going into a Circuit Breaker lockdown from 12.01am Thursday 19 November until 12.01am Wednesday 25 November 2020. During this time essential health services can remain open and people are able to leave their homes to obtain essential health services, telehealth however is the preferred option where clinically appropriate. ... Private practice is closed to in-person care but may operate via telehealth. In-person mental health services may be provided in hospital emergency, at inpatient psychiatric services, by allied health professionals providing mental health services in hospital, private psychiatric practices or by allied health professionals in community settings with a preference of telehealth but face-to-face is only permitted in the instance of emergency clinical care in life-threatening situations. The following professionals are exempt from the current order: Allied health professionals working as essential workers in hospitals providing critical clinical care or as directed by the hospital Allied health professionals working in private practice providing care through telehealth and other virtual care options Allied health professionals providing mental health services, being provided in hospital or telehealth Students, medical/nursing/midwifery/allied health on placement providing essential care in hospitals or through telehealth Not exempt: Any other allied health professionals other than above Any students other than the above The intent of this policy is to limit people’s movement as much as possible during the restrictions period and the AASW advises all social workers to exercise rigorous professional and ethical judgment when assessing whether it is safe, appropriate and in the client’s and communities’ best interests to provide face-to-face social work services, consistent with SA Government guidelines. 03.01.2022 In recognition of NAIDOC Week the AASW SA Branch is offering a number of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Students currently undertaking a Bachelor or Masters of Social Work at Flinders University or UniSA, FREE student membership for the remainder of 2020/2021. The SA Branch recognises that we have a lack of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander member representation in our state and wish to provide early career exposure to students in the hope that in addition to supporting the students we can also start to build better communication channels with and representation of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community. Details on how to apply and the closing date have been sent to the Universities to promote to students or can be accessed by emailing the SA Branch.
