10.01.2022 I get asked a lot about tow cars...so here's some guidance. - few car/trailer combinations are efficient or safe at maximum weights - trailer weights are often ...understated, from ATM to TBM - towcar ratings are almost always overstated; the reality is the tow rating is a marketing figure - weight distribution and stability is as important as total weight; a 3000kg car trailer with a central mass may well tow better than a 2000kg "offroad" caravan with high sides, soft suspension and large masses front and rear - towing weights are complex; your trailer/car combination may run up against one of several limits; GVM, GCM, TBM...whichever limit you get to first is the maximum you can tow. - the big USA trucks tow very well but they all have small payloads - GVM upgrades are unlikely to give you any more GCM, and if they don't, the effect you can tow smaller trailers. Towing setup is complex, and no Facebook post can possibly explain it all.
