14.01.2022 greatattitude creates a successful learner! You are not alone during this period of time. S.H.A.R.I.N.G | Written by Sarah Earnshaw-Rowe. School will start back for students on Wednesday. I know many parents are worried about not knowing the answers to their child’s work or coping with multiple ‘students’ but I promise you that there are much more important things that you will encounter during this process.... Attitude If you have a poor attitude towards remote learning, their teacher/s, completing school work then your kids will pick that up. Try to remain positive and be ok with things not being perfect. Resilience In life we know we all need to be resilient and you will have a perfect opportunity to teach your children that you are resilient and they can be too! If you don’t understand their work straight away, have another go at it! If you aren’t sure after that, ask for help from their teacher (or even better, get them to do it!) and continue on with something else! Teach them not to just give up! Patience If the internet is slow, a computer program won’t work or you can’t find something they need for their work, be patient! Your reaction to these things becomes their attitudes in life. Failure Teach them that it’s ok to have a go at the work and get it wrong. Teach them that you don’t know all the answers and then work together to find them out. If equipment fails then move to plan B, plan C and let them know that they can go back to it later. Motivation Some days we are more motivated than others. This also happens with kids! They may bring their A game one day and the next day might be a real struggle. Not everyday needs to be sunshine and rainbows, just do what you can to get the work done. Education comes in lots of forms While teachers will be sending work home, remember that most kids won’t need algebra, volleyball or Macbeth in the future. Teach them maths through cooking, teach them how to analyse a film and characters by watching a film together and taking about it, teach them about science by investigating plants and insects in the garden! You know so much about the world that they will need so be their teacher! Look after yourselves and your little ones in this tough time. Believe it or not, teachers will really miss them and you are so blessed to have these wonderful, inquisitive and sometimes painful young people in your life! You’ve got this
