17.01.2022 A new report by ABA and Western Sydney University highlights the impact of COVID-19 on mums, and the importance of breastfeeding during the pandemic. The report..., based on new survey data, showed an increase in women seeking support with breastfeeding since the start of the pandemic, especially around the ability to continue breastfeeding, the ability of breastmilk to protect against infections, ways to increase milk supply or reduce the use of formula supplements, and how to restart breastfeeding. ABA’s volunteers were able to provide that support via phone and online, when other support services were reduced or closing. 05.01.2022 If you have been diagnosed with or are suspected of having a respiratory virus (including COVID-19), it is important to continue breastfeeding, to ensure your b...aby is protected by the antibodies in your breastmilk. Respiratory viruses are not transmitted through breastmilk. To reduce the risk of giving the virus to your baby, those who spend time with your baby should wash their hands frequently and cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. #coronavirus #covid19 #breastfeeding

02.01.2022 Many of our friends and neighbours are in locked-down suburbs across Melbourne, including the public housing towers in North Melbourne and Flemington. We are h...ere for you. Breastfeeding is even more important in emergency situations. If either a mother or baby is unwell it is important to keep breastfeeding. Breastmilk contains protective antibodies to most viruses that the mother is exposed to. To reduce risk of transmission, people who spend time with your baby should wash their hands frequently and cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. If you need help with breastfeeding or would like to restart breastfeeding, call the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 1800 686 268. Any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also use the TIS translation and interpretation service. If you need a translator or interpreter, call 131450 and ask them to call 1800686268. ABA has updated information regarding the care of babies when you are unwell with a respiratory virus: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/covid-19 www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/breastfeeding-and-influenza For specific information about the respiratory virus COVID-19 visit: UNICEF www.unicef.org//novel-coronavirus-outbreak-what-parents-sh www.cdc.gov//specifi/pregnancy-guidance-breastfeeding.html #COVID19 #virus #breastfeeding #protection #illness #information #support #ABAmelbswest
