17.01.2022 Sleep is a very hot topic in parenting circles with lots of different opinions. The ABA website has some resources on sleep. More info here https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bf-info/sleep ... Position Statement on Safe Infant Sleeping here https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//POL-Statement%20Safe%20I A note on sleep training ABA aims to ensure that parents have information to allow them to make informed decisions about how and where their baby sleeps. We promote safe co-sleeping as an option if that is what parents choose. We are mindful that some sleep training techniques may have negative effects on breastfeeding and encourage parents to consider all options and gentle techniques. There is no one right way, but parents are encouraged to be guided by their baby’s needs and cues. Many local ABA groups have books that can be borrowed on gentle sleep techniques. From our sleep article: Baby sleep-training programs are becoming popular, so it is worth reading the opinion of the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health Inc (AAIMHI) in its 2002 position paper (revised in 2013) on controlled crying. 'AAIMHI is concerned that the widely practised technique of controlled crying is not consistent with what infants need for their optimal emotional and psychological health, and may have unintended negative consequences.' You can read the background to these concerns in a PDF document that can be downloaded from http://www.aaimhi.org/k/position-statements-and-guidelines/ before you make your own decisions on this issue."

13.01.2022 One in five mums will experience perinatal anxiety and / or depression. We also know that a significant number of non birth parents experience similar rates of ...mental illess. Left untreated, these illnesses can have long-lasting impacts on parents, partners, baby and the rest of the family. The key to getting help is being able to recognise that something is wrong and being brave enough to ask for help to ‘tell someone who cares’. That might be talking to your partner, child and family health nurse, doctor or PANDA’s National Helpline. Learn more about the signs and symptoms: https://bit.ly/3n3d5aK Image - An illustration of five mums. Four of the mums are coloured grey with just one shown in colour. 10.01.2022 Finding the right balance for your body and your baby can be tricky at times. Usually breastmilk production works on Supply = Demand, so when we feed our littles according to their needs, our body will make the milk they need. Many mothers worry that they do not have enough milk, yet this often isn't the case. Check out this link to see if your baby is getting enough milk: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//my-baby-getting-enough-m... If your supply does need a boost, we have some great tips: Feed your baby more often Lots of skin to skin (showers and baths are great for this too) Switch sides many times during a feed Use breastfeeding to comfort your baby instead of a dummy Jump over to our website for more ideas: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//common-concerns%E/supply #abamorningtonpeninsula

09.01.2022 Research provides reassurance to mothers with diabetes that they can successfully breastfeed and that common concerns relate to breastfeeding, rather than diabetes. Read more in our article on breastfeeding with diabetes: aba.asn.au/MPDiabetes

05.01.2022 As well as all the fun stuff that comes along with Summer, we often face natural disasters as well. If you live in an area that is prone to cyclones, bushfires or flooding, it is important to be aware of what you might need for your baby in the event that you have to leave your home. Find out more about ensuring your baby can be safely fed if you have to evacuate or if you find yourself without power for extended periods of time here: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//infant-feeding-emergenci
