24.01.2022 Many mothers feel a deep sense of loss when they are unable to breastfeed, either at all or for as long as they had planned. This is natural. It is normal to fe...el sad, and to feel some grief and remorse. It is important to allow yourself to feel these emotions. You may not be satisfied with your experience and things may not have gone as planned. Even if you child breastfed for just one day, this is a precious gift and something to be proud of. If you are reading this and your breastfeeding experience was not all you hoped it would be, please know that ABA is here for you. Read more https://aba.asn.au/bfgrief

23.01.2022 We know some families like to schedule a short break before baby arrives. Why not tie this in with one of our 'Down South' Breastfeeding Education Classes (B...EC)? Pregnancy is a great time to learn about the early days of breastfeeding. Donna, our Capes Group Leader and BEC Busselton, Margaret River and Bunbury Coordinator would love to hear from you. https://aba.asn.au/bYDhV [Image: A smiling pregnant woman on a bench seat relaxing in a public courtyard. Her partner is reaching over her and putting his hand on her baby bump. The couple are gazing into each others eyes]

22.01.2022 This post will tell you the truth about milk supply and cookies. We all love cookies but they arent a magic solution for building supply. Most mothers are ab...le to produce more than enough milk for their baby (or babies), especially when accurate support and information is obtained. The majority of mothers who think that they have a low milk supply problem actually dont. If you feel you have a low milk supply problem, call our Breastfeeding Helpline on 1800 686 268. Lactation cookies (or other substances claimed to increase supply) only work when breastmilk is being removed frequently and effectively from a mothers breasts. When all factors contributing to a low supply have been identified and addressed, then lactation cookies or other substances may help to speed up the process. By far, the most important way to establish and then maintain a good milk supply is for breastmilk to be removed often and well. Read more about galactagogues (things claimed to increase supply, like lactation cookies) https://aba.asn.au/Galactagogues ... with good support you can build supply, cookies wont work by themselves.

22.01.2022 We're back - This Friday

21.01.2022 There are many causes of breast or nipple pain when breastfeeding. Have you heard of vasospasm? Mothers with vasospasm of the nipple feel sharp pain, burning or stinging in the nipple. It is usually accompanied by sudden whitening of the nipple, followed by a colour change from red to blue. There are two main causes of nipple vasospasm. Find out more about vasospasm here: www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/vasospasm If you have concerns about pain or soreness, a chat with a breastfeeding counsellor on the National Breastfeeding Helpline (1800 686 268) can give you the information and support you need.
