24.01.2022 Tuesday 14th July is all about Starting Solids and Family Foods! Come and share your experiences, your fears, your wins and your ideas. From 10am.

23.01.2022 This role has taken on many forms over the six years since I started it. I've run group meetings, I've handed out magnets in hospitals, I've spoken at baby expos, I've talked at antenatal classes. I've eaten cake, drunk tea, met heaps of mums and made loads of friends. Tonight I took my 1000th call on the Breastfeeding Helpline and I couldn't be more proud. ... - Kath.

23.01.2022 Have you seen this report? You may have been one of the callers. We're proud to say that counsellors from the West End group have been supporting families all over Australia through the pandemic. Thanks for helping us to do it

22.01.2022 Do you know a health professional that would benefit from some professional development? Let them know about this great seminar coming up. Paper brochures are available.

21.01.2022 Coming up next week at the South Brisbane Sailing Club:

20.01.2022 We know that now is a difficult time to be navigating life with a new baby, or an older baby, or a toddler. We want you to know that we're still here for you. So no matter what's happening, for a problem big or small, we've got someone there that you can talk to about what's going on with you and your baby.

20.01.2022 Babies need their parents a lot in the early days, and sometimes beyond. Night waking is normal and healthy, but it can be a big adjustment for many parents. This article has a few tips on how to make the rest of your life easier if your baby is sleeping in bursts.

19.01.2022 If you have been diagnosed with or are suspected of having COVID-19 you can continue to breastfeed or supply expressed breastmilk for your baby. Breastfeeding ...helps protect babies from a variety of illnesses and importantly keeps mothers and babies together. This is because breastmilk contains antibodies and other immune protective factors. Visit our website for more information about COVID-19 and breastfeeding: www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/covid-19

16.01.2022 We talk about this at meetings often. Parenting is exhausting because it's relentless. No matter what age you are, parenting is a 24/7 job. Be kind to yourself, be kind to your support people. Babies are very intense little creatures and the best we can do is to love them until they grow out of it.

16.01.2022 Hands up if you feel like this....

16.01.2022 Face to face events are back! Check your email for details of Tuesday's catch-up.

12.01.2022 COVID positive mums can and should be supported to breastfeed. Shout it from the rooftops! Share this in case someone you know needs to see it.

06.01.2022 Attention: anyone who has ever wanted to change from an electronic Essence subscription to a print subscription (or vice versa), please note Margaret's email to...day. THIS IS NOW POSSIBLE. Hooray! It's fair to say that this has been on the wishlist for quite a few people for quite a while now! So we're all happy to see this option and extra flexibility for members to receive Essence in their preferred format. To make this change, go to MyABA --> Log in --> click "Update my details" (usually in a box on the right of screen) --> click "Communication details" --> click the tick box beside "I would like a paper Essence" Please share these details with your local group members. A huge thank you to everyone for your support of Essence (whether in print or electronically), and to everyone behind the scenes who makes this happen.

05.01.2022 Of course we love them.... but wakeful babies can be relentless. If this is something your baby is doing at the moment, there are excellent tips on coping with broken sleep on our website: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfin/how-cope-broken-sleep What works in your family?

04.01.2022 Keep a good thing going

04.01.2022 CAKE DAY. Treat yourself.

04.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning!

03.01.2022 The Australian Breastfeeding Association national management team has left group meeting scheduling in the context of the current pandemic in the hands of Group Leaders. Due to our low volunteer numbers in an area with high population density, our group won't be scheduling any meetings until the end of April, at which point we will re-assess. Group members have been emailed with alternative options, including our Breastfeeding Helpline, 1800686268, which is available 24 hours a day. If you'd like to show off your gorgeous baby, you're welcome to do it here!

02.01.2022 There is lots of news media about COVID-19 and many people are concerned. If either a mother or baby is unwell it is important to keep breastfeeding. Breastmilk... contains protective antibodies to most viruses that the mother is exposed to. To reduce risk of transmission, those who spend time with your baby should wash their hands frequently and cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. If you need help with breastfeeding or would like to restart breastfeeding, call the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 1800 686 268. ABA has recently released some updated information regarding the care of babies when you are unwell with a respiratory virus: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/covid-19 www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/breastfeeding-and-influenza For specific information about the respiratory virus COVID-19 visit: UNICEF www.unicef.org//novel-coronavirus-outbreak-what-parents-sh www.cdc.gov//specifi/pregnancy-guidance-breastfeeding.html #COVID19 #virus #breastfeeding #protection #illness #information #support
