24.01.2022 It is with a very heavy heart that I hear of another local small business closing down a business that is creative and beautiful and filled with like minded a...rtisans a business run by an amazing lady that is passionate and hard working and inspirational a business that is special to me and was instrumental in the dream that became Marlee Moon Australind Timeless Wares Antiques & Collectables is located within the heritage listed Henton Cottage a gorgeous old miners cottage surrounded by a beautiful heritage rose garden and located directly across the road from the historic St Nicholas Anglican Church. Originally named ‘The Prince of Wales Hotel’, it is one of Australind’s earliest buildings. The cottage was transported from England to Australia in the late 1800’s via ship and was home to several prominent founding families. But for the past thirteen years, Henton Cottage was showcased as a collective retail space, with a delightful and unique variety of antiques, collectables, crafts, local art, upcycled vintage wares, gifts and tourist information. And now, it will sadly become another statistic in a cut throat economy of cheap, nasty and greedy. Is it only when the main streets are deserted, the shop front windows dusty and bare and the last locally owned small business is closed, that local Shires will proactively look at encouraging and supporting the small businesses that made their towns vibrant and attractive? Is it only when consumer options are limited to buying online from faceless interactive robots or monopolised by large franchised corporate conglomerates, that tax breaks or utilities discounts are offered to struggling small business owners? Is it only then that incentives will be offered to landlords who provide affordable commercial rents? Only then that locals wish they had supported local I am very, very grateful that I have an amazing assortment of loyal locals who support my little shop whether it is by spending their hard earned money on my treasures, by sharing my social media posts, by liking and commenting on my photos, by telling their friends and family about me or by calling in with a smile for a chat local business does not survive without local support. But even with all of that beautiful local support, I only survive with the help of my unpaid staff my Mum is the smiling face in the shop to allow me days off, she’s the expert advice on all things antique and she can strip the old fashioned way, with steel wool and shellac my Dad is my handyman, my morning coffee saviour and lunch sharer, he’s my muscles and powertools and lately, more often than not, he is also the bank that I borrow from, an ever increasing IOU that each month doesn’t always get paid back. I know that times are tough, I know that there are bills to pay and mouths to feed - but local small business needs your support. It needs you to call in and look around, to give constructive feedback on stock range, prices, choice and options, it needs you to share positive experiences and to tag, like and recommend to family and friends. But most of all it needs you to consider the difference it would make if it was not there anymore ... Sending big loves, thanks and best wishes to all of the amazing humans that were a part of the Australind Timeless Wares journey, who helped to create such a beautiful, welcoming, unique and inspiring space for so many people to enjoy it will always hold a special place in my heart xx
23.01.2022 SEVERE WEATHER WARNING The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is urging people in parts of the SOUTH WEST, LOWER SOUTH WEST, GREAT SOUTH...ERN and PERTH to get ready now for severe weather. If you live in the South West and parts of Lower West, South Coastal and Great Southern districts you need to get ready now for the severe weather coming early tomorrow morning. Locations which may be affected include Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Katanning, Mandurah, Manjimup, Margaret River, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Perth, Walpole and Yanchep. An approaching cold front is expected to reach the Capes EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. 23.01.2022 Well, well, well
23.01.2022 Epic news: direct flights from Melbourne to Busselton will start 1st February Jetstar will fly three times a week, from Melbourne’s Tullamarine to the Bu...sselton-Margaret River Airport. Initial sale fares start at $149 each way (bargain!) Originally scheduled to begin in March 2020, we’re stoked these direct flights will start early in 2021. It's fantastic news, especially as the West Aussie borders reopen, and we think our pals flying in from Melbourne are going to love the warmer weather, beautiful beaches, long winery lunches and incredible biodiversity. This particular stretch of sand runs from Meelup and Castle Rock (pictured) right down to Dunsborough in the distance. It's a choice spot for swimming, stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling or hiking the bush trails, often as a prelude to the Cape to Cape Track walk. You can see why Lonely Planet named this region Number 1 on their Best in Asia Pacific list, with water "the hue of Bombay Sapphire bottle". So what are you waiting for, Melburnians, it's time to snap up some tickets! Mitchell Clarke IG/mkz.imagery

06.01.2022 BUNBURY TO BUSSELTON TRACKLESS TRAM INVESTIGATED Researchers at Curtin University are exploring the potential for a trackless tram between Bunbury and Busselt...on. The idea is for a solar and wind powered tram to start at the Bunbury train station and provide links to the CBD, beaches and to popular attractions further down the coast such as the Busselton Jetty. Professor of sustainability Peter Newman said a Perth to Bunbury fast train, which just received Federal funding to be investigated, and tram services would complement each other. "Getting on a train from the centre of Perthtaking a very quick trip and then being in the South West for a really good tourist tram experience, I think that would add significantly to the case for having a fast train," Professor Newman said. "It is potentially a real drawcard in itself." What do you think of the idea? City of Bunbury

03.01.2022 I'm sure you've heard me say it before - travelling around Western Australia is a world-class experience. From the unique landscapes of the Kimberley and Pilbar...a to the gourmet paradise of the South West, and everything in between, our State has so much to see and do. But, sadly, this just isn't the time for it. We've made the extremely difficult and completely unprecedented decision to shut down travel between WA's regions. From midnight Tuesday, restrictions will be placed on travel within the entire State of Western Australia. Western Australians will not be permitted to leave their regional boundary. It’s absolutely vital every Western Australian understands you cannot travel within WA. It must stop immediately. Police have the power to enforce these restrictions if necessary, and fines of up to $50,000 can be issued. To be clear, those are: the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid-West, Goldfields-Esperance, Wheatbelt, Great Southern and South West. Due to their proximity and interconnected nature, Perth and Peel will be treated as one region. The health and safety of people in regional Western Australia must be our priority. Exemptions will apply for, among other things, essential services and workers, including health and emergency services; people living in ‘border communities’, who may not have access to groceries or supplies within their region; employment purposes; medical reasons; transport of essential goods and some compassionate grounds. Additional restrictions to remote Aboriginal communities were announced by Aboriginal Affairs Minister Ben Wyatt this week, to provide extra protection to these vulnerable communities. If you are currently away from home - you need to come back. Now. If you were planning a trip - you cannot go. But I have one important request - don't cancel your bookings with our regional hotels, tours or other providers - postpone them instead. This won't last forever, so let's do what we can to make sure those businesses are still there once it is over. That next trip will just be so much sweeter.

01.01.2022 CANCEL THAT EASTER CAMPING TRIP #BREAKING: Travel between Western Australia’s regions will be restricted at midnight next Tuesday to halt the spread of ...COVID-19. Restrictions will be placed on travel within the entire state of Western Australia, Premier Mark McGowan said. Regional boundaries will be created, the regional boundaries mirror those of the Regional Development Commissions." Mr McGowan said the Peel and Perth regions would be combined into one region, due to their close proximity. West Australians will not be barred from leaving their regions for essential purposes, he said. Police have the power to enforce these restrictions if necessary with fines of up to $50,000." Mr McGowan said further detail about the restrictions would be released at a later date, including what exemptions would exist. Including but not limited to, travel for work purposes to deliver essential good, for essential health and emergency services and other essential requirements, he said. Exemptions on compassionate grounds will also be in place. Does this announcement impact your Easter plans? DETAILS | https://ab.co/39li0g6
