15.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: the Godwits have returned! We spotted over a dozen Godwits feeding along the shoreline at Hen and Chicken Bay, Abbotsford, this evening. Bar-t...ailed Godwits are the world record holders for non-stop flight they have been recorded travelling 11,000km from Alaska to New Zealand in eight days, flying at an average of more than 50km/h without sleeping, eating or resting! The return of the Godwits is a wonderful sign for the health of the river but we need to make sure they continue to come back. Some of the key threats to migratory shorebirds are off-leash dogs in breeding areas and litter and pollution in the river, so remember to keep your dogs on leash while walking around the foreshore

15.01.2022 There are 402 families at Abbotsford PS and most children this morning have received a packet of pasta, already to 'Cook up a Storm' during the week. I will probably be cooking up my cheats pasta. Cooking for one can be a bit tedious, so I usually fossick around for what is in the fridge. The following is not the healthiest of meals but it is immensely satisfying I usually have fresh breadcrumbs sitting in the freezer, a lemon usually lurks in the fruit bowl and tired parle...y grows in a pot on the balcony. I fry the breadcrumbs in good olive oil along with some garlic, I add grated lemon rind and at the end a handful of chopped parsley. I boil spaghetti until 'al dente' and then add the pasta to the frying pan along with a smidge of pasta water and a long squeeze of lemon juice. Place onto a plate, add a handful of Parmesan and call it dinner. I hope that you have some exciting ideas for your pasta, as I have walked around the classrooms this morning, I have heard some very adventurous cooks make suggestions, all taking into account the style of pasta they have received. Italian grandparents and a COVID life of cooking shows are showing in many students. Please enjoy your pasta, make a fabulous meal, take photos of the meal and POST TO OUR FACEBOOK PAGE. Use the hashtag #APScookupastorm if you would like to also post to Instagram and tag APS - @abbotsfordps2046 Buon appetito! Chef Johnson #APScookupastorm

04.01.2022 Max, one of our Abbotsford School Captains 2020, displayed great leadership this morning by acknowledging the ANZAC spirit. At a time when school is a remote learning environment, Max realised that the usual on site Remembrance Ceremony was not possible, nor was the formal ceremony conducted by Five Dock RSL. Max took it upon himself to dress in school uniform, light a candle and stand alongside the cenotaph on Great North Road, to carry on the Abbotsford tradition of ackno...wledging the ANZAC spirit and honouring the veterans and service members who have acted to protect our freedom. Max exemplifies the great leadership of the ANZACs and we thank him for his initiative. Today the lonely winds are loose And crying goes the rain. While here we walk the field they knew The dead who died in pain. The fields that wait the slow hours long For sounds that shall not come In other fields, in other earth The laughing hearts are dumb.
