25.01.2022 Government Flu vaccines are arriving in dribs and drabs. We have about 2,000 people to vaccinate and are given only 100-200 each week. It may take a few weeks to see everyone who wants a vaccine. Also remember that the pharmacy advertised vaccine is not suitable for >65s. Call Friday afternoon after 2pm to book for the next weeks clinic. To comply with social distancing, flu clinics will be held in a marquee in the carpark.

22.01.2022 Hi Everyone, There are a few changes to opening hours coming up soon. We will be closed for Sunday the 29th of September and Sunday the 6th of October (long weekend). We will be open on Monday 7th October (Public Holiday). On the public holiday, full private fees apply for everyone. You can book online at www.abbottmed.com.au. 22.01.2022 Thank you for participating in the questionnaire we recently conducted in order to collect feedback from our patients. We have now completed our analysis of the feedback and would like to share some of the significant findings with you. Overall, we found that: most of our patients are happy with the level of healthcare they receive at our practice most of our patients are happy with the service they receive from our administration staff there are a few ways we can impr...ove the level of healthcare we provide We are very pleased to report that most patients rated the following aspects of our practice as very good or excellent Seeing clinician of my choice (82%) Clinician was Professional and Polite (96%) Reception staff were professional (92%) The feedback also indicated areas that we can improve, including Waiting times once arriving at clinic (54%) Coordinating care with other health professionals (67%) As a result of the feedback collected from our patients, we are planning to make some changes to improve the services and care we provide. We will give you more information about these changes when we have finished our planning so you can see how your feedback is helping us improve. Here is a list of some of the specific feedback we received from 40 people 19 people reported it was all good, or nothing I would change. Continue good work, doctors, staff are very friendly and professional. Here are some things we are looking at Text messages for appointment reminders More chairs with arms Fatter cushions my skinny bottom feels suffers./Chairs with cushioning pads very uncomfortable suggest better without. The magazines Some things we wont be able to change or implement. (Our response in italics) A roof over the carpark/A small section for undercover parking/drop off for wheelchairs, when its raining (it takes minimum 5 mins to get out/setup) other than that, an excellent practice in all aspects. /I know it would be difficult, but sheltered parking would be good (We dont own the building and the landlord wont pay for it) Am disappointed that my doctor has left the practice just when I established trust and faith in her./Unfortunately the Dr I was seeing has now left, but that is nothing we can change. (Our doctors have needed to leave because of family commitments or wanting to do extra training. One is back soon after doing extra training at Yarrabah) Doctors running on time (A difficult one. We want to do a good job and sometimes extra time is required) Having a coffee machine in waiting area (We did consider this, but it would be a potential burns risk) Thank you again for your valuable contribution. 22.01.2022 "Introducing Dr Matthew Warburton Family Doctor and GP with Special Interest in Dermatology Dr Warburton has over 20 years of medical experience, graduating from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2001, he became a fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2007. He moved to Australia the next year, gaining fellowship in the Australian College of General Practitioners as well, before moving up to Cairns in 2010 where he has provided GP services to the Woree and... Earlville area. As well as being an experienced GP, in the last 12 months he has developed a great interest in skin cancer medicine and dermatology. He has certificates in Skin Cancer Medicine and Dermoscopy, an Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Surgery and he is currently studying for his Master of Medicine (Skin Cancer) with the University of Queensland. He conducts complete skin examinations (skin cancer checks) and offers surgical and non-surgical treatments for skin cancer as well as many other inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema/dermatitis, psoriasis, hair and nail problems. Where the skin problem is more serious, Dr Warburton works closely with local skin specialists (Dermatologists) in Cairns. Since October 2018 he has also worked in Cairns Hospital as a GP with Specialist Interest in the dermatology department. Dr Warburton also assists Dr Simon Tucker (Dermatologist and Mohs Surgeon) in Cairns Day Surgery as well as the Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeons in Cairns Hospital. 15.01.2022 Here are some of the changes you will see at the front door and in the Waiting Room. If you do have a fever or symptoms of cold/flu, please do not come into clinic. Call us beforehand and we can advise what the next best step is. Some people who are a little bit sick can safely stay home and we can arrange a sick note, some will need to come to clinic and we can see you in the car, some will need to go to hospital.

06.01.2022 Meet the Abbott Medical Team. Dr Emma Madams joins us from Newcastle where she studied medicine. She was a nurse before becoming a doctor. She has worked for many years in the hospital system and is enjoying the breadth of care in general practice. She has experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait health issues. As part of her hospital training, she helped patients suffering from addictions.

Garry moved to Cairns in 1984 and has an interest in heart care and rehabilitation after heart attack. Garry performs skin cancer surgery and stitching wounds. He enjoys care for the elderly, mens health and pregnancy care.... He is a keen AFL fan and is involved with the Manunda Hawks club.
