23.01.2022 "ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE." NAIDOC week in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) has culminated in celebrations on the council lawns today, with music, face painting, speeches and a smoking ceremony. Also for the first time, four flags have been raised: Aboriginal, Torres Straight, Northern Territory and Australian. ... Mparntwe was set to be the host town for NAIDOC week in 2020, but Covid-19 restrictions meant it couldn't happen. Don't worry though, Central Australia will still be the face of NAIDOC in 2021! A Northern Territory Senator says the NT's two federal parliamentary seats are expected to be secured for the foreseeable future.... 21.01.2022 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ISSUED 4:54 PM for people in parts of Lasseter district. Gusty thunderstorms are continuing over the southwest Lasseter District. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours... Locations which may be affected include Yulara, Kaltukatjara and Uluru. The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should: * secure loose outside objects * ensure pets and animals are safe * avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten * pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears * avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current * for emergency help in floods, storms and cyclones, contact the NTES on 132 500. 11.01.2022 MT GILLEN CLIMB SET TO CLOSE From March 2021 access to the unauthorised trail will be closed. The trail starts adjacent to Flynn's Grave and goes up the slope of Mt Gillen. The site is a major sacred site and the stories are known only to senior Mparntwe custodians.... The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security say the climb will be closed at the request of Traditional Custodians and concerns for public safety on the unmaintained trail. Chris Day Senior Director Parks and Wildlife Operation says that from today access will be restricted and from March 1 2021 fines will apply for anyone who climbs.

This year ABC Alice Springs are asking Territorians to dig deep and donate to Vinnies NT as part of our annual Christmas Appeal. St Vincent de Paul is a not-for-profit organisation who work with some of the most vulnerable people in the community including the elderly, the homeless and those living in poverty. ... It’s been a tough year for the NT community ,charities like Vinnies NT have seen an increase in the request for help. Throughout the year St Vincent de Paul offer accommodation services, emergency relief, disaster recovery, maintenance and support services across the Northern Territory.
