22.01.2022 MAN CRITICAL AFTER BEING HIT BY A CAR An 18-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was struck by a car near Coffs Harbour earlier this morning. Police say two men were walking northbound on the Pacific Highway near the Sawtell Road off-ramp, Boambee East about 1.20am when one of the men was hit by a white van. ... The driver, a 44-year-old man, stopped and offered assistance before emergency services arrived. The 18-year-old was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital. The driver was also taken to hospital for mandatory testing. As officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, they are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam vision, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

06.01.2022 MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AND ANIMAL CRUELTY A man will face court today charged after allegedly striking a dog and assaulting a woman in Coffs Harbour overnight. Police says just before half past nine last night, a man attended a fast food restaurant on Bray Street, tying a dog up outside.... A woman parked nearby and approached the man after reportedly seeing him strike the dog in the face and body. The man allegedly punched the 58-year-old woman in the face, threw her to the ground, and grabbed hold of her throat. Passers-by intervened but the pair continued to argue. A 49-year-old man arrested at a nearby home on Bray Street has been charged with commit an act of cruelty upon an animal, common assault, and intentionally choke person with recklessness. He was denied bail to appear in the Port Macquarie Local Court today.

06.01.2022 JETTY LEVEL CROSSING CLOSURE 'NOT IDEAL': ARTC The Australian Rail track Corporation says a long weekend road closure at Coffs Harbour's Jetty Beach tourist precinct is not ideal, but is necessary. Maintenance work on the Jetty level crossing will see Marina Drive closed between Orlando Street and Jordan Esplanade between 7 am and 8pm on Saturday... with alternative access via Camperdown Street.... ARTC's group executive of the Interstate network , Peter Winder says the timing of the works to upgrade the level crossing was unavoidable. "We only have two opportunities a year where the Sydney to Brisbane railway line is closed for its entirety through Sydney and all up the coast for a whole range of maintenance activities," he says. "It's obviously a lot safer for ourselves and the general public to do it when there are no trains running."

Once planning approval is granted by the Federal Government, construction works are expected to begin along the route. ... The ABC has put questions to the Infrastructure Minister and Deputy PM, Michael McCormack about when the federal approval will be granted.

02.01.2022 DRIVER ALLEGEDLY BLOWS ALMOST FIVE TIMES THE LIMIT A woman has been charged and had her licence suspended after allegedly driving almost five times the legal limit in Coffs Harbour. The woman was breath tested by police last night at around 8.35 on Harbour Dr where it's alleged the 44 year old returned a positive reading.... She was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station for a secondary breath analysis, where she allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.233. The woman will appear in court on November 30.
