24.01.2022 Have your say below if your children are unhappy that singing and playing woodwind & brass instruments are banned at schools Music classes involving singing and playing woodwind and brass and woodwind instruments banned in all Victorian schools in term four, prompting an outcry from teachers who say the decision could lead more students to quit music lessons. Students had beginning to lose their motivation after months of remote music classes, and music teachers had ...hoped to reignite their interest face to face when the schools reopened. The mental health and wellbeing of students is paramount and we all know that participation in music provides many students with a place of connectedness and safety. The directives in place for term four will have a damaging and long-term impact on music programs within schools for many years to come. 22.01.2022 It was and still is my dream to have primary schools where every child is musically literate, not just those whose parents can afford lessons, or where children are auditioned out. My philosophy is quite different from every other music educator I have known or heard of as the classroom teacher, I presented music lessons daily, to the whole class, with the logic and sequence that I applied to teaching mathematics or reading. Those who showed interest and talent could then join the specialist daily groups to expand their skills and enjoyment Margaret Wright OAM

It is important that students are practicing at least 3 times a week. It doesn’t have to be for too long; 15min can be enough. By practicing the work they have done in class throughout the week, they are able to grow their skills and improve their memory, progress at a better rate and make the most of their time with the teacher during the lesson...s.
