23.01.2022 WAITING FOR DETAIL ON SPECIAL WILLIAMTOWN PRECINCT Residents living around the Williamtown RAAF base have been told they'll have to wait six months before they'll know details of a Special Activation Precinct and any potential land acquisitions. NSW Planning today hosted an information session about the precinct, which is set to become a leading defence, aeronautics and aerospace hub.... Executive Director at Planning Anthea Sergeant says an investigation area of 13,000 hectares is being assessed across Williamtown, Salt Ash and Fullerton Cove. She says between 2,000 and 5,000 hectares of land will be needed, but it's too early to say exactly where it will be. "So we've got a really large investigation area," she said. "It's going to be combination of what is the demand for industrial land, how much land is needed, so it's based on proximity to the airport, but also finding a piece of land that's the least constrained." Residents leaving today's session expressed concern about the lack of certainty and questioned if residents will get fair value for any land that is acquired. A draft master plan for the precinct is due to go on public display in the second half of 2021.
