22.01.2022 Should ride-sharing companies like Uber be forced to pay annual fees in Tasmania to help in "levelling the playing field"? This could be the case under new laws to be tabled by the Tasmanian Government this week. Ride-sharing companies will also have to be formally accredited by the government and be subject to more inspections under the proposed changes. Its part of a bill to support Tasmanias taxi industry, which includes capping the amount of new taxi licenses on offer.... Transport Minister Michael Ferguson says existing transport laws are outdated and that these laws will make things "fair for all concerned". Taxi fares will also increase for the first time in six years, but the government says the cost to consumers will be mostly offset by a reduction in credit card surcharges. What do you think of the proposed changes?
