The company has had a trailer custom built so it can deliver training in working at heights and confined spaces in rural and remote areas. ... Wade Krause from Krause Health and Safety said it can be challenging and costly for remote businesses to keep staff training up to date. "It's difficult to shut down a business for the day and send 20 students to go and do it, so a lot of them have to do it one at a time."

21.01.2022 BORDER WALL FALLS Queensland's borders have reopened to travellers from all of New South Wales and Victoria this morning. After nearly five months of the borders being closed to non-Queensland residents from Victoria, and nearly four months to those in greater Sydney, Queensland's borders re-opened at one o'clock this morning. ... While un-restricted travel from Adelaide will not be permitted for at least another week, Queensland Police say border checkpoints will be dismantled. Those flying in from Adelaide will still be required to complete hotel quarantine. Meanwhile, restrictions within Queensland have also been eased, outdoor gatherings of up to 100 people will now be allowed, indoor gatherings remain capped at 50.



20.01.2022 URANDANGI FIRE DESTROYS HISTORY The owner of the Urandangi Pub said there was no hope of saving an old house that burnt down in the town last week. Pam Forster said the old 'road house', as it was know, burnt down in about 30 minutes, because she couldn't access the fire unit and the town's water main was broken. ... 19.01.2022 Overnight care to acute emergency patients will not be provided at the Julia Creek Multi-Purpose Health Service from today, with only two beds available for aged care patients. The change is due to lack of nurse staff in Julia Creek, unable to be filled due to border closures and a key staff member currently in quarantine. Staff will now be on-call at night, with patients needing overnight care to be transported to Cloncurry, Mount Isa or Townsville. ... North West Hospital and Health Service spokesperson Michelle Garner said that the facility averages one overnight patient per day, which may be able to receive at-home care during the downgrading. "The changes will be reviewed as soon as borders reopen and we can find staff," Ms Garner said.

Some local residents have said the fence will now prevent anyone from accessing the footpath safely, without walking further into the road and behind parked cars ... Mount Isa City Council will now review project following the backlash. Interim Director of Infrastructure Service Bernard Smith said the project has already cost ratepayers at least $2,000, and was originally started following an accident late last year. "In this instance, someone fell down the curb," Mr Smith said.

06.01.2022 #ICYMI The North West Hospital and Health Service has said they regret downgrading health care in Julia Creek. Board chair Paul Woodhouse has deeply apologised for not addressing the community's concerns sooner. Earlier this month, Julia Creek's Multi Purpose Health Centre downgraded to a level one facility, with aged care residents told to leave. Medical staff have directly blamed the pandemic.

The display will be launched from reservoir three hill (where the water tank with the rodeo capital logo is). ... 02.01.2022 CAUTION A sizey saltie is looming near a remote community at Kakadu. Kakadu park ranger Jenny Hunter filmed it crossing the road.... Her partner Andy Ralph sent out a warning to families living in Kakadu's Madjinbardi community via Facebook. "A decent-sized crocodile is moving about the causeway and is not shy in doing so." Kakadu rangers have erected fresh warning signs and spoken with residents and Djurrubu Rangers about the croc risk. Mr Ralph says it's not the first croc sighting near remote communities in Kakadu and it won't be the last. "Remember, just about every creek, culvert and waterhole in Kakadu has a croc in it during the wet season - so be on the look out and stay safe."

01.01.2022 INVESTIGATION INTO BARKLY HWY CRASH Police investigating a fatal traffic crash which claimed the lives of a 44-year-old woman and 17-year-old boy on December 28 last year near Cloncurry are asking for the public's help. At around 6.35am a ute travelling along the Barkly Highway 26km west of Cloncurry collided with a road train. ... Police are hoping to speak to two potential witnesses to the crash, in particular, two women who were travelling in a small white car in the area at the time. The driver of the road train was airlifted to the Mount Isa Base Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and is appealing for a anyone with information to make contact.
