09.01.2022 A.B.C. Races 2020 Cancelled due to COVID-19 The A.B.C. Amateur Race Club committee have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 A.B.C. Races event at Brunette Downs, due to the Covid-19 situation that is still evolving. The committee, a community group, feel this is the only course of action available given the uncertain time frame and impact of Covid-19. Just two weeks ago we were excitedly making plans to announce that there had been sufficient rain on the Barkly t...o allow us to resume our normal program, after having to cancel 2019 events due to drought. This year the ABC Amateur Race Club is celebrating 110 years, and we had some big plans to share with you, so having to cancel has left us all feeling a bit drained. Said Club Secretary Linda Blackwood. The A.B.C. Amateur Race Club was established in 1910, and in its 110-year history, this will only be the fourth cancelled race meet. The other cancelled meets were due to the War and severe drought. The A.B.C. Races at Brunette Downs are one of the highlights of the Territory calendar, bringing together people from cattle stations and towns across the Northern Territory and Queensland, and drawing guests and visitors from all over the country. The committee is grateful for all our loyal sponsors and supporters, and the event will be back in 2021, with a big reunion to celebrate the longevity and tenacity of the club.
