23.01.2022 Local hospital patients will be allowed to have visitors stay for up to 30 minutes at a time from next Monday, under changes announced by the Limestone Coast Local Health Network Currently visitations are capped at 15 minutes, with most patients able to have two visitors at a time. The time limit will be doubled at all of the health services' acute sites from November 2. Executive Director of Medical Services Doctor Elaine Pretorius said health service programs were slowly ...resuming as authorities became more comfortable with the lack of COVID-19 spread in the local community. "The reason we kept it at 15 (minutes) was that anything in excess of 15 minutes would be considered a contact," Dr Pretorius said. "Now that we're relatively sure that there's no community spread, we are happy to increase it to 30 minutes. "And over time, you will see that most of our services are now resuming, we're able to provide services in the community, most of our group education and group activities are resuming." She said delayed elective surgeries in the Limestone Coast were almost caught up, and the region had now conducted 44,000 COVID tests locally.

18.01.2022 Imagine the surprise when this baby brown snake turned up in a kitchen in Beachport over the weekend! Local snake catcher Jake Manser was called to locate the snake, which managed to hide itself in the a gap between bricks and a kitchen cupboard in the brief moment the homeowner took her eyes off it. After an hour or so of fruitless searching, Jake was called to help.... "Finding the snake was the hardest part - we just had to remove one timber panel to allow enough access to get small piece of metal behind the snake and just gently tickle it to coax it to come out," he said. Jake said snakes - particularly eastern brown snakes - were active around the South East at the moment and on very hot days may be looking for a cool spot inside your home. "If you have the air conditioner running or a tile floor, a nice insulated house and you have the door open a crack then the snake could sense that cool air, and if it's too hot for them outside they'll try to find a place to cool down," he said. "Or they're trying to find a drink as well." Jake says he's been called to remove snakes from a washing machine, under beds and inside wall cavities, but the majority of call-outs were for snakes in people's yards. And if you do find a snake inside your house? "Keep your distance but try to keep an eye on it and call a snake catcher," he said. It's also recommended to keep pets' water indoors and make sure doors are sealed well. : Limestone Scales Reptile Relocation
