20.01.2022 First published in 1981 and authored by C.J Binks, The Story of Devonport has been a popular publication telling the history of our City (and the two towns ...of Formby and Torquay) - and one which is still available for purchase in our local bookshops. The Arts, Culture & Tourism Strategic Special Committee of Council is considering updating the publication (since theres another 35 years of Devonport history to consider) - and would like to know if you would support an updated copy of the publication? Thank you for your feedback. See more

12.01.2022 The Spirit of Tasmania normally comes and goes in the dark at this time of year, but Saturday marked the start of the day sailing schedule... This is the magnif...icent view that awaits as you sail into Devonport :) Thanks to Neil Hargreaves for a brilliant capture. These sailings depart each port at 9:00am and arrive at 6:00pm, meaning you get to experience all that Spirit of Tasmania has to offer from dawn til dusk. There are no Fasten your seatbelt signs in sight; with a Day Ticket youre free to wander the ship and explore the many indoor and outdoor areas. Enjoy a delicious meal at TMK self-service buffet style eatery or relaxing drink at Bar 7 or Terrace lounge bar with daily evening performances by local a acoustic artist. Or for added relaxation (not to mention a siesta), book a cabin and have your own private place to retreat and unwind. Flavours of Tassie is a showcase of Tasmanian gourmet food and beverage producers, featuring the states best cheeses, chocolates, preserves, beers, ciders, wines and spirits. As well as enjoying free samples, travellers have the chance to meet the makers behind the labels and learn all about what goes into these fine products (besides all the love of course). Its a great introduction to the island state before youve even arrived! 05.01.2022 An awe inspiring view of the little known and rarely photographed Winterbrook Falls, near Black Bluff just inland of Ulverstone, in Tassies North West by Isaac... from Off Beat Photography :) This is truly one of the most spectacular forest walks in Tasmania. You will walk through stunning Tasmanian myrtle rainforests and past sassafras, celery-top pine, leatherwood and the northern most population of the magnificent King Billy pines that are over 2000 years old. The track is actually quite open allowing you to take in the sheer beauty of these trees. This time of the year, the falls are amazing, especially after all the recent rain we have had. We can guarantee you will hear the falls before you see them! The falls drop about 75m into a natural amphitheater on the western side of Black Bluff. The track to the falls starts at the car park about 15 kilometres south of Leven Canyon. The going is fairly easy until a tough uphill climb for the last 20 minutes to the lookout from where the picture above is taken. It is about another 10 minutes to the base of the falls. #Tasmania You can also follow Isaac on instagram: www.instagram.com/offbeatphotography

04.01.2022 The excavators have been busy on the corner of Best Street & Fenton Way, preparing for the start of construction on our new multi-deck car park. Over the course... of the next few weeks around 20,000 tonnes of fill and rock is expected to be removed from the LIVING CITY site, as the Fairbrother team work to achieve the levels needed for the new buildings. The original bricks from the old Police Masters Cottage have also been stored, for re-use in the Market Square landscaping and paving. This morning a large milling machine has arrived on-site, which will be used to remove and recycle the bitumen surface of the old Rooke Street car park. Weve also installed two new webcams which are live streaming through the LIVING CITY website at www.livingcitydevonport.com.au/webcams, so you can check out on-site progress at any time (for optimum viewing we recommend using the latest versions of Google Chrome, Safari or Firefox) #livingcity #devonportcity #devonporttas See more
