25.01.2022 Lois came to check out the garden before Puppy Primary School this weekend. Abel showed her how to use his pond. I think she got.
25.01.2022 Does your dog display anxious behaviours or over react to certain people, dogs, noises, objects or environments? I have a special talk for owners of anxious or... reactive dogs and have scheduled one for Thursday 1 October 2020 at Billy's Day-Care for Dogs, 106 Robinson Ave, Belmont from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm. In this information session we will learn how to keep your dog feeling safe and then look at ways to change their emotional reaction to those big scary monsters. It includes practical tips to help you in real life scenarios. We will also look at some simple ways you can help them improve body confidence - as we all know, when you feel confident in your body it helps you move through the world with more confidence. Cost is $35 each (Significant discount available for rescue volunteers - please have your rescue email [email protected]) Some reviews from the last one - Rating: 5 stars Brilliant Talk! Really enjoyed it and I took away some new ideas and strategies to help my anxious dog. Was also really great to meet people in the same boat and it was a really supportive environment. Fiona covered a lot of information in the talk which was easy to understand and not overwhelming. Lisa QS Rating: 5 stars A really informative and well-presented workshop including a step by step "how to" deal with and manage reactivity. Fiona has an amazing ability to foster a sense of community during her workshops and talks, and this session is no exception. As Fiona points out in the talk, having a reactive dog can be a very isolating experience and being in a non-judgemental space with like-minded people experiencing similar issues brings with it a sense of relief for dog owners. Great if you're just getting started on some counter conditioning as a pet dog owner, if you're looking to tweak your current strategy or learn more about working with reactive dogs. Highly recommend Book online at
24.01.2022 Make sure the exercise your young dog is getting is safe. Throw away the ball (in the bin). Growth plates gradually thin as hormonal changes approaching puberty signal the growth plates to close. In puppies, this closure is normally completed by approximately 18 months old. Until the growth plates close, they’re soft and vulnerable to injury. ... https://www.animal-mrt.com//21701/Exercises-for-Young-Dogs/
21.01.2022 Wow. So many new things to learn.
20.01.2022 New positive techniques to move livestock.
19.01.2022 When your dog does something you don't like or want, ask yourself what is reinforcing the behaviour?
19.01.2022 A good trainer working with her dog.
19.01.2022 For ages I’ve felt that ball throwing is not a great thing. Over arousal, injuries, lack of socialising and repetitive behaviours.
19.01.2022 This morning part of our training class held in local park included sitting around with the dogs. Everyone was calm and some chose to interact with others, if the other dog looked uncomfortable the interaction was interrupted. Often anxious Blake the greyhound chose to meet the other dogs, Lois was a very calm ACD and tiny Beanie explored by herself. I felt very proud of the dogs and their handlers. Picture of Blake at home.
17.01.2022 Positive reinforcement. Couldn’t teach these behaviours using punishment.
15.01.2022 A lovely walk with much sniffing and rolling in dirt and grass. Met a few dogs and then chilled in the shade and watched people go by.
14.01.2022 А мне говорили - возьми его на охоту!
11.01.2022 You get what you have paid for. Do a job get a reward.
10.01.2022 Puppy Primary in Hamilton Hill. 3 pups Lois the ACD, Narla the staffie x and Beanie the Chi mix. Narla’s first time and she started out shy, Beanie very shy, and Lois a confident ACD. Pups kept separate from Lois until they felt more confident. When introduced their interactions were managed so the confident pup didn’t overwhelm the others and breaks were taken. Older dogs, Billy (whippet x poodle) and Tunip ( long haired dachshund) were introduced in the last 20 mins with their children. Kids and their dogs are excellent with other dogs. All dogs stayed mostly calm. Were interrupted regularly. The shy dogs became more adventurous. In the last 5mins Abel came to the group. Lois got so excited to see him.
10.01.2022 Yes you can. Sorry if there are some terrible dog training ads on before.

09.01.2022 When I am working with a dog, I want them to see distractions in the environment as an opportunity for reinforcement If my dog becomes reactive to other do...gs while they are on lead, the appearance of other dogs at a distance should equal getting paid BIG TIME with food and play. You can substitute other dogs for kids on skateboards, cars, unknown people, bikes etc. Thanks to SpiritDog Training for their informative posters
05.01.2022 It's all about the gut! Research keeps coming out about the importance of the microbiome in the gut of mammals. New research from the Faculty of Science at Eötv...ös Loránd University indicates that dogs' aging mechanism and memory performance are also linked to their gut microbiome composition similar to that of humans. Healthy gut, healthy mind! See more
