23.01.2022 LGBTQAI+ Australians at higher risk of depression and suicide during coronavirus pandemic. The research also highlights poor access to health services and a lack of specialised LGBT and transgender services. As his home town of Newcastle grappled with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Taryn Dorrough was having a personal battle with his mental health.... More than one in 10 reported feeling unsafe or afraid at home. "There's a significant amount of research and anecdotal evidence that the trans community is marginalised in many respects," co-author Sav Zwickl said. "Difficulties gaining employment, maintaining employment, rejection from family, physical violence, verbal abuse, yet still struggling with those basic aspects of respect. "To know that so many people are struggling it's incredibly difficult. It's been incredibly difficult being a researcher who is also part of the trans and gender diverse community. And to know there's limitations on what can be done at the moment." The research also highlights poor access to health services and a lack of specialised LGBT and transgender services.

18.01.2022 Australia’s young people have one of the highest suicide rates of high income countries. We need to do better. Here is an article from research done at Monash University in Australia ... What is surprising is that Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has not been asked any questions about this report. He's not been required to explain why Australia’s children are so unhappy, and what he intends to do about it. This is in stark contrast to New Zealand, Where Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been grilled about why New Zealand was ranked so poorly. https://lens-monash-edu.cdn.ampproject.org//mental-health-

17.01.2022 Marcus Aurelius quote When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself: The people I deal with today will be meddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous, and surly. They are like this because they can’t tell good from evil.... But I have seen the beauty of good, and the ugliness of evil, and have recognized that the wrongdoer has a nature related to my own, not of the same blood or birth, but the same mind, and possessing a share of the divine. And so none of them can hurt me.

16.01.2022 Its World Mental Health Day today 10th October 2020 It might seem that the world's mental health is worse than ever.... Effective therapy is available. Unfortunately, because the Australian Government refuses to include psychotherapists and counsellors in the Medicare Rebate Scheme 21st century therapies are not made available to the general public. Old "gold standard" therapies are all that are offered. Therapies that often make people worse, like CBT or Exposure Therapy. I’ve had clients who became suicidal after months or years of these therapies. These days and for the last 20-30 YEARS we have newer brain based therapies that can access deeper "frozen" states and completely resolve symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, chronic pain. Some of these are called: Brainspotting Somatic Experiencing Sensorimotor Psychotherapy EMDR Many psychologists don’t, or are not permitted, to use these therapies as there isnt 60+ years of research behind them. What IS behind them is 30 -40 years of clients being thrilled with their results going on too live purposeful, meaningful, satisfying lives.
16.01.2022 Children, whether they are adults, or still young, do not need to pretend their parents are perfect. No one is. It's ok to speak the truth.

Our Thoughtful Parenting Kit is now available for free The Thoughtful Parenting Kit has been designed to offer an important set of resources for parents and carers to think about what is important to them in relation to their parenting. 15.01.2022 To understand the full scope of the adoption experience, we must challenge and change its narrative. What if instead of Go-Fund Me’s for prospective adoptive parents, we provided adequate resources to birthparents so families could stay together? What if poverty wasn’t a crime and piano lessons weren’t a panacea?... Better, chosen, and grateful are adoption’s primary vernacular. But that language narrows the totality of our experience, and the way we adoptees get to speak about it. Talking about adoption with idealized language creates an unrealistic paradigm, one where what we lost isn’t just diminished, it’s denied. As adoptee Celia Conner says, "Our trauma is one of the only where the victim is still expected to exude gratitude." Gaining a family also means losing one. Let’s start there. Change the narrative so that loss and grief and longing are spoken about first. Adoptees are more likely to die by suicide, to struggle with substance abuse, to enter mental health services, to suffer from depression and anxiety, ADHD, and learning disorders than our non-adopted friends. Something isn’t better for us. So why isn’t calling adoption a different life good enough? https://medium.com//deconstructing-the-better-life-myth-of

11.01.2022 When people try to stop taking anti-depressants they feel awful. The pharmaceutical companies know this. They want what they refer to as "customers for life". Often, when the withdrawal symptoms begin, those who have taken these drugs for many years fear their depression symptoms are returning. ... Not so. They are experiencing Antidepressant Withdrawal Syndrome and its nasty. It can happen after only 30 days on these medications. And most people are on them for decades. Read on for some specifics.

07.01.2022 The Pandemic has created a 2nd crisis - people's mental health is at breaking point. "As the coronavirus crisis continues to wreak havoc across Australia and the world, a new health crisis has emerged. Newly-revealed figures obtained by The Australian have shown the nation is in the grip of a mental health emergency alongside the pandemic, with more than one million Australians seeking help since the coronavirus outbreak began.... The problem is most acute in Victoria, with residents of that state three times as likely to access mental health services in recent weeks." A 3rd crisis is the weight of the influx of clients on mental health workers who are in desperate need of support as well.
