24.01.2022 This week the children created beautiful sand art in the sand pit. We coloured the sand using powdered dye, then they pasted their own design onto paper and used shakers to shake the sand on top. The children were intrigued at the new shades and colours the sand created as it blended. Through this sensory experience the children were able to experiment and express their creativity.

21.01.2022 Welcome to term 4! We have had a beautiful start to term with lots of nature play outdoors. The children have enjoyed making their own fragrant, magical potions using flower petals, leaves, fresh herbs and coloured water. They have mixed, poured, crushed with the mortar and pestle and used eye droppers and syringes like true alchemists! EYLF LO 3.2 (5) Child is able to use their sensory capabilities to explore and respond to their environment.

16.01.2022 Our new water tank has arrived! We were able to purchase this as we were successful in receiving a grant from the Government Drought Funding. The children were very excited to see it arrive on the big truck, and then to watch the plumber connect it to our shed roof. Soon we will be able to use the rainwater to water our gardens, and for water play in the warmer months. Our centre philosophy states: ‘We will strive to collaborate with children as global citizens in learning shared responsibilities to the environment’, and through the practice of water conservation we are upholding this philosophy. Our children are also achieving Early Years Learning Framework outcome 2.4 (4) ‘children demonstrate care for both natural and constructed environments’.

14.01.2022 More snow play and snow fights at preschool today as Jody brought another esky of snow for us to play with. The children loved this sensory experience and loved chasing their educators with snowballs even more!

13.01.2022 Some of our children enjoyed making Diyas (oil lamps) for Diwali, the Festival of Lights, this week. They made pinch pots using clay, then decorated them with colourful sequins. EYLF LO 5.3-3: children use the creative arts to express ideas and make meaning.

13.01.2022 Today the children were excited to discover and explore our new workbench. The hard hats and vests were made available for the children to role play during this activity. They learnt how to hold the nail, and hammer it into the wood. They were creative with using lids and paper with the nails to construct their work. They learnt from trial and error about where to hit the nail without hitting their fingers. The children were very proud of what they had created and excited to show their families this afternoon. EYLF 4.4.4 children use resources to investigate, assemble, invent and construct.

12.01.2022 It was like a giant slumber party at preschool last week, as we all dressed up for pyjama week. Thanks everyone for joining in the fun.

11.01.2022 Some messy fun this week whilst foam painting at the perspex easels. Not only was this an engaging sensory experience, it was social too, as the children talked and laughed together. We added some metallic paint which sparkled in the sunshine. EYLF LO 4.1 - Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity.

11.01.2022 Today the children explored an abandoned bird’s nest, and discussed the different materials the bird had used to build it. They then created their own nests using paint, collage materials and recycled paper and cardboard- they even incorporated real feathers they’d found outside. We then read a story about an egg hatching in a nest, and the children constructed nests in bowls using loose parts and nestled wooden eggs inside. Some of the eggs ‘hatched’ baby chicks, which then became an important feature in some beautiful imaginative play.

11.01.2022 Jody and her family went to Barrington Tops on the weekend where it was snowing, and she brought back some winter magic for us to share- an esky full of fluffy white snow! The children loved touching it and tasting it, and we even made a snowman and had a snow fight with it outside. It was so much fun. Thanks Jody. The children have been observing the seasonal changes and are excited to see birds nesting in our surrounding trees. There has been a lot of social play in which friendships with peers are blossoming and being built on. As you can see the children are also learning some new skills- aren’t they clever?
