20.01.2022 Aberdeen & Leeds Comedy Cabaret temporarily close until who knows when? No dining, no laughing. No partying but we will be back. We have taken our time to make this announcement whilst we worked out the best way forward to try and keep our team in employment whilst being socially responsible.... Today we had to tell our teams of amazing comedians and staff that we have no work for them until June? July? August? September? who knows. To our Customers we have two options for you. 1. We can DEFER your booking to a date later in this year when we reopen (restrictions will apply). If you chose this option we will also give you one additional set of FREE tickets for another show later in the year meaning TWO nights for the price of one. ALSO once the COVID-19 crisis is over we will give an equivalent amount of FREE tickets to front line NHS staff. These people are our heroes. They have had annual leave cancelled and many of them are forgoing their own families to help others. That’s three times as much laughter in the face of COVID-19 or 2. You can have a refund minus any credit / debit transaction fees We want you to choose option 1. That way once all of this is over we can offer our staff some monies over the coming weeks and months, and then continue to bring smiles to your faces, snorts to your noses and happy tears to your eyes and those of people. If you prefer option 2 that’s fine too. We all need to do what’s best for ourselves and society in general at this time. Stay safe But make sure you look after your mental health and keep laughing. Hopefully we can keep doing that for you for a long time to come. Any questions please email [email protected] Alan & Andy & the team The Comedy Cabaret

18.01.2022 This morning we have woken up to the news that Blue Lamp owner Sandy Broon has passed away. He loved his whisky and was a massive supporter of live comedy. He was a straight shooting lovely man. He will be missed. RIP.

03.01.2022 Comedy is Scotland's greatest cultural export. Not ballet, not opera, not orchestra, not rock and pop, not Ewan MacGregor or Lewis Capaldi. We are World leaders.... Every year the World comes to us for Fringe. Edinburgh and Scotland is to comedy what Glastonbury is to music festivals, what La Scala Milan is to Opera, what Broadway is to Musical Theatre and what Hollywood is to cinema... And what Glenfinnan Viaduct is to Harry Potter. Only St Andrews for Golf, Speyside for Whisky and Nevis Range for Mountain Biking come close to being equivalent centres for international pilgramage in Scotland... The Stand is our main commercial competitor Their Edinburgh venue is the finest comedy room on Earth. It is simple, it is pure... It is world class. Imagine the outrage if The Old Course or Murrayfield were threatened with closure. Comedy is classed as a private commercial enterprise that for many Scottish arts centres and theatres is their biggest ticket seller after panto... It subsidises their other programmes. However the Scottish Government does not recognise Comedy as an art form worthy of HMRC 1.57billion covid arts fund. In the Hydro we have the world's busiest comedy venue. The local authority owned Hydro will survive. Scotland's 6 commercial comedy clubs will not. Rotunda Comedy Club hopes to open up again next month... If Scot Gov allow us. We have been lucky during COVID, we have had the car park to turn into a beer garden. The other venues have not been so lucky. Scotland's Comedy Clubs need help. We are not asking you the public to donate. We are simply asking that when we are finally allowed to open you join us. Until then we ask that you share this to far and wide AND we simply ask Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government to let us sit at the same national government funding table as Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, RNSO and some person who is being funded to knit (seriously knitting gets funded). #letuslaugh
