11.01.2022 Have you heard about the changes in junior domestic for the boys competitions? From Keilor Thunder Basketball After careful consideration, the KBA board have made the below decisions around Age Group structure. For the upcoming abbreviated 2020/2021Summer Season: BOYS:... There will no longer be an U19 Boys competition. This will transition to an U18 and U20. The reasoning behind this primarily revolves around the large number of teams and a desire to alleviate any restrictions to player numbers. We are also required to have additional court spacing to ensure COVID compliance. The decision was also made to introduce the ‘shot clock’ into the U20 competition. GIRLS: The Girls’ competition will remain U19. For the duration of this shortened season, players who have already turned 19 will be permitted to compete. Depending on the level of demand, the KBA Board will look at introducing a U18 and U20 competition for the 2021 Winter season. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? BOYS U18 will be 2 age groups only - 2005 & 2004 No longer will we have the age disparity between top age and bottom age that existed with 3 birth years and the issues this presented physically BOYS U20 will be 2 age groups - 2003 & 2002 The boys will be able to continue playing basketball with their junior club for an extra year. OTHER INFORMATION: - At this stage, the KBA are planning on playing the U20 competition on a Sunday afternoon/evenings at Keilor Stadium (this may change depending on the number of other junior teams entered and available court space) - U20 teams will be affiliated with a junior club - Team registration, scoresheet/entry fee are the same as the rest of the junior domestic program. - The shot clock - As with scoring, it is a teams’ responsibility to provide a volunteer to perform this function - The start date for the season is to be confirmed but the KBA are aiming for Sunday, 31 January 2021. - There will be 8 rounds, there will be no grading games but an abbreviated finals system will run. Thanks to St Christophers for this update
