04.01.2022 The Aberfoyle Community Centre has been proudly operated by a volunteer Board of Management since its inception, however, the responsibilities and complexities of managing incorporated community organisations have increased significantly over the last ten years. In 2018, Council and representatives from community centres explored the option for Boards of Management to relinquish the management and governance risks of their roles to council , whilst still continuing to influe...nce how the community centre operates through the formation of a non-incorporated Advisory Group. Over the last two years, the Board of Management at Aberfoyle Community Centre has persevered with the complex role of managing the Centre. The Aberfoyle Community Centre Board has made the difficult decision to relinquish the management of the Centre and will transition the Centre to a Council-managed facility and are currently working with City of Onkaparinga Staff on a transition process to ensure that the change in management is undertaken in a coordinated and seamless manner. The important points about this change include: A transition team will be formally nominated at the Special Annual General Meeting scheduled for 11th November 2020. The Public Officer and Secretary will caretake the operations of the Centre until the Special AGM. Current programs and services will not be impacted Employees of the Community Centre will have the opportunity to continue in their roles Volunteers of the Community Centre will be able to continue their highly valued work and can transition from the centre’s volunteer program to council’s volunteer program There will be a celebration for past and present volunteers and community members who have been a part of the centre’s development and service to the community An advisory Group will be formed to continue to guide the programming and services provided through the centre. It is anticipated the full transition will take a number of months and we will keep you informed as this progresses.
