20.01.2022 As the days start getting longer the temperature is increasing, it is important to know how to take care of your eyes. Here are some easy tips on how to take care of your eyes this summer: 1. Wear the right sunglasses: During summer, the intensity of the sun's UV rays increases, which can be potentially harmful to your eyes. Wearing good quality sunglasses can help minimise the amount of harmful UV rays affecting your eyes. Aim to find sunglasses with good UV protection, larg...er to provide more coverage and a wrap around design. Polarised lenses are great for blocking out glare, which is important if you spend lots of time near the water or driving. 2. Cover more than just your eyes: In addition to sunglasses, wear a hat or visor, find shade where possible and make sure you wear sunscreen if you're planning to go outside during the day. 3. Wear goggles when in the pool: It is recommended to wear goggles in both indoor and outdoor pools. In chlorinated pools, some microorganisms may survive and cause an infection. Also, chlorinated water can cause irritated and red eyes. If this occurs, use topical lubricating drops to help soothe your eyes 4. Schedule your regular Optometrist visit: Summer usually means holidays too! Ensure to make the most of your spare time and visit your Optometrist for your regular eye examination. Ensuring you see your Optometrist regularly will allow early detection of any eye conditions.
