25.01.2022 Day 7. We went to Christo Rei. Too many steps to count to get to the top but definitely worth the effort. Later I had time for washing my clothes with wobble technology and a hair cut.

21.01.2022 Ravindran and Minals cut flower farm just outside of Mumbai. Maybe one of the best collections we’ve seen. Someone may have been a bit too excited.

19.01.2022 Day 3. We drove along the coast westwards to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The large plant nursery there was very interesting. They provide fruit and forestry trees for free. We loaded up the ute and headed back stopping on the beach at Liquica for lunch.

18.01.2022 Last Saturday after arriving in Mumbai. A quick trip to Minal’s beauty salon for an eye brow tidy, Akins of torture called threading. After watching Lyn’s pain I decided that I was perfect as I am and as politely as possible exited the salon as fast as I could. Then we visited Portuguese ruins from the16th century.

18.01.2022 Day 5. The first signs of success. Bean seeds are the first to germinate on Friday morning after planting them on Monday. We went to Vinod Patel, a general supply shop a bit like Bunnings but with a much broader range of goods. On one shelf was a drone and on the opposite shelf was an old style mincer. I think that is a good summary of Timor-Leste, although Most of the people are much more likely to own a mincer than a drone.

15.01.2022 Day 4. Shirley, one of our team members is from Casterton Rotary Club. She is standing next to some potted Bougainvillea which have been grafted so that there are 4 different colours on the one plant. Pretty amazing to see and quite common here. Also common are red bananas and pinkish nanas or pineapples.

13.01.2022 The last couple of days in Tibar were a bit easier pace as we had achieved a lot in our first week. We watered and mulched and watched things come up, amazed at how fast things grew. The snake bean seeds germinated on Friday and we’re 30cm tall by Wednesday morning when we left. Many other seeds were on their way too. Bitter melon, corn, cucumber, pumpkin, peas and greens. On Monday we had an education session with staff and patients to hand over the ongoing care. There are a number of keen gardeners amongst them so I’m sure the veggie garden and nursery will continue and grow in their care.

13.01.2022 Musical salesmen Mysore. The worlds most persistent salesman. Watch the video and see what I mean.

12.01.2022 Koi in the pond at the bottom of a large garden within the Shangri-la garden rooms. They are 60 cms long and so amazing.

08.01.2022 Day 6. This afternoon we went to the Timorese Resistance Archive and Museum. It was a graphic and sobering documentation of the recent past. No photos allowed. Later we went for dinner on the way home. The drinks menu included caipirinha made with brown sugar so I had to give it a try. Pretty darn good.

05.01.2022 Singapore. We are staying at the Shangri-la hotel. There are a lot of sporty looking people here so we asked where they are from. Turns out they are the Arsenal soccer team.

03.01.2022 Heliconia Society International Conference 2018. Why are we really here, not for the endless amazing flowers and food but for the conference.

01.01.2022 Afternoon visit to Heliconia farm. Sexy Pink Heliconia is one that we can’t grow in the subtopics, it must have warmth all year round. The food here is so so good, 3 meals a day and we finished off this day with a BBQ feast.

01.01.2022 Images from India. So much colour.
