25.01.2022 Lovely little video shot in Down South Arts and Crafts by talented local musician Simone Keane. who visited the shop today, and was kind enough to feature some of my artwork etc (with absolutely no encouragement from me!)

25.01.2022 Look out for this one, guys!

25.01.2022 Just discovered this absolutely beautiful album by Albany songstress Simone Keane Highly recommended. Possibly the best $15 youll ever spend!

25.01.2022 After the flurry of exhibitions, its really nice to able able to settle back into my normal routine. Not sure any of us needed the whole Pandemic thing to quieten life down, though! :( Im working on pieces for Art Trail in September now, but... who knows?? So in the total absence of certainty - if you need something nice to look at while Socially Distancing, theres always my online store to browse through! :) https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/store/c1/Online_Store

24.01.2022 Getting back on track art-wise now, after a bit of down-time and catching up with other stuff. I had four painting sales over Easter, too, which was lovely - a bit nerve-wracking attempting to package them safely, and Ive no idea how long it will take them to reach NSW... But hopefully they all arrive in one piece! Im currently working up a largish oil painting referencing cats vs. wildlife, and the attached started out as a preliminary sketch towards that - but then it jus...t took me over... Pretty much like the cat herself, really! "Black... or White?" Watercolour pencil on black paper. 21 x 30cms - in black frame. $145.

24.01.2022 Finished another Rosella painting, this one is my favourite I think. Sometimes they just go well right from the start, and sometimes they really dont! - but this one did :) https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/oils.html

23.01.2022 Albany Art Group Exhibition ends tomorrow. Last chance to bag a bargain!

22.01.2022 So, one door closes... Bump-Out at Whaleworld tomorrow (WW asked us to stay an extra day, due to cruise ship in port!), and... Bump-In at the VAC on Friday! Meanwhile, we have the Plantagenet Arts Council holding their biennial Art Prize/Exhibition - the Opening Night is on Friday 28th February, with prize-giving etc, then the exhibition runs right through Sunday 8th March. Unfortunately, I cant attend the Opening, as Im waiting for treatment on my left eye (which is pre...venting me driving at night - or, much at all, really)... However, I have entered my little Numbat family, so at least I got to finish that in time - just! The unprecedented droughts caused by escalating Climate Change are driving these extreme fire events, and devastating our wildlife. This is SUCH an important issue. Lest we forget... :( https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/exhibitions_media.html See more

22.01.2022 All set for the Lower Kalgan Art Exhibition tomorrow and Sunday :) Sounds like a trip to the Kalgan, and the complementary Textile Art exhibition at the Albany King River Hall, will be an excellent activity for a forecast wet weekend!

22.01.2022 So now Ive now wrapped up most of my volunteering stuff, and Im having a holiday - back in the studio! Currently, Im happily re-visiting my orchids... https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/watercolours.html#/

21.01.2022 Well, very exciting/scary! Our new venture, Down South Arts and Crafts, opens in 2 days - 10am on Wednesday 1st July Spent the last few days getting everything organised and the shop set up, with Natalie finishing off today - apparently its looking great. Really looking forward to getting started. Hope to see you down there :)

20.01.2022 Had a bit of a back-handed compliment from FB yesterday... I tried to put a post up to sell my paintings etc online, and used this Rosella painting as the main photo. FB knocked it back, because they dont allow sales of live creatures! The clue was actually in the post title - "Paintings, Prints and Cards"! - but anyway... Gave me a bit of a laugh, once I got over being annoyed https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/#/

18.01.2022 Finished the signage and finishing touches today, all ready for opening Down South Arts and Crafts tomorrow Be great to see you there

17.01.2022 In Albany this week? Don't miss the Albany Art Group exhibition at the Vancouver Arts Centre Albany. Lots of lovely paintings and pottery offerings - open 10 to 4 all this week. Opening night was great, despite Covid restrictions - enthusiastic visitors, and beautiful music from our lovely Simone Keane. Thoroughly enjoyable :) Here are my entries, which will go to Down South Arts and Crafts when the exhibition closes on Sunday. https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/watercolours.html#/

17.01.2022 Ive been out of action for a few days, but thankfully my eye is doing well now, and Im getting back on deck again :) Unfortunately, I missed the entire Plantagenet Art Prize exhibition :( but my Numbats found a good home, which was brilliant! The Albany Art Group exhibition is on at the Vancouver Arts Centre Albany through Sunday, and traffic has been slow so there are plenty of lovely artworks remaining. Why not take a tour if youre in town? https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/exhibitions_media.html

16.01.2022 Our exhibition is coming to a close, so this would be a great weekend to visit Whaleworld before we disappear on Wednesday afternoon - thats Last Chance to See... the work of Suzanne, Steve, Barry, and Abigail :)

16.01.2022 So, a small group of us Albany Creatives started out with the idea of providing an internet presence, to bring local artists together, and support and promote each others work through all the Covid-19 stress and shutdowns; and... In just one week, this has grown from being purely a web platform, to now running a physical Gallery space. We have just leased the beautiful old Banking Chambers at 86 Stirling Terrace, next to Dylans Cafe! We are currently assembling a nice mixed... bag of people and products, and our Members will spend June getting set up. We will be opening for business on 1st July! An exciting but quite frankly terrifying few days... I do NOT do spontaneous well ! See: https://www.facebook.com/downsouthartsandcrafts/

15.01.2022 Looking forward to the SACT Exhibition at the VAC, which starts next weekend - though it is proving a bit stressful finishing my last entry. Hoping to complete it in time... so, watch this space!! https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/#/

15.01.2022 It was Bump-In today for our Home and Away exhibition and sale at Albanys Historic Whaling Station. Hard work for Suzanne, Steve, Barry and I, but I have to say it does look good! And I sold a Queen of Sheba painting to a lovely couple as I was putting it on the wall, so thats a really brilliant start :) I have a good selection of watercolour paintings to the right of the entrance, on the walls and a table. I also have Photographic Prints and Greeting Cards - taken fr...om my paintings - for sale on plinths to the left, with oil paintings on the wall above. And, of course, my famous Aurora Magazine cover-painting, Father and Son. Our four painting styles are very different, but seem to compliment each other nicely (see Albany Art Group WA). Well worth the lovely drive out there to visit - and the Whalers Cafe comes highly recommended, too! ;) See more

15.01.2022 So we set up the @Albany Art Group exhibition at the @Vancouver Art Centre today. Some very nice entries, including pottery. If youre in Albany, why not come to our Opening tomorrow afternoon, and say hello? Ill be on the desk :) https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/

15.01.2022 Many thanks to City of Albany Arts & Culture for featuring me on their new Meet the Maker web-page this week Im in illustrious company on there, with brilliant songstress Simone Keane. Jon Doust novelist and artist Cynthia Orr - so I was very honoured! Fame at last, eh? https://www.albanyinthistogether.com//meet-the-maker-monda

14.01.2022 "Father & Son" have flown off to their new nest today, from the SACT exhibition. A bit sad, as they were a favourite... but nice that they have found a loving new home :) As this is a 'rolling' exhibition, I will replace them with "She Loves Me..." tomorrow morning. Great to hear that the ArtSouth WA and the Southern Art & Craft Trail exhibition is doing so well https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/watercolours.html

13.01.2022 Just finished another painting in my Numbat series - this one is a watercolour - referencing the recent fires which devastated the Numbat re-location site in the Stirlings :( https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/watercolours.html#/

13.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day, everyone Even if you cant be together physically, its a great day to share some love and appreciation - so easy nowadays, thankfully, with Skype etc, and free phone calls around the world! 09.01.2022 A real skin-of-the-teeth effort, this one... finally finished it around 6pm, then had to frame and label ready for the Albany Art Group exhibition set-up and opening tomorrow. Phew!! Really looking forward to the Opening - we have lovely paintings and pottery, and live entertainment by our wonderful local songstress Simone Keane. 09.01.2022 Working hard to catch up, after the last couple of weeks of exhibitions etc, and thought that a little blue wren from my garden would be nice. Got him finished and framed today, and he will be flitting off to Down South Arts and Crafts with me tomorrow :) https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/watercolours.html#/ 'True Blue' Splendid Blue Fairy-Wren ... 08.01.2022 And finally... finished! This old-growth logging piece has been epic - quite literally on the drawing board for nearly a year now! - it's so good to have completed it at last, and just in time for the ArtSouth WA Exhibition next week too It's a timely commentary, I feel, with the wholesale destruction of our remaining native forests still raging unchecked Paradise / Lost Oil on canvas, 56 x 56 cms.... https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/oils.html

08.01.2022 Ive just had a wonderful week at Down South Arts and Crafts, with 3 of my bird paintings flying off to their new homes :) Many thanks to all three new owners for your enthusiasm and kind comments, and I hope you get lots of pleasure from them for many years to come It has been a very uplifting experience for me! 06.01.2022 Some inspirational good news this week, on the survival chances of the critically endangered (and extremely elusive!) Western Ground Parrot The little fellow below is quite easy to spot, however, despite his camo gear, as he will be found lurking in Down South Arts and Crafts from tomorrow "They Seek Him Here, They Seek Him There..." 06.01.2022 Well, its out! And they gave me the front cover, too... Cant wait to pick up my copy! Thanks, Aurora Magazine and Giles Watson. Absolutely awesome...!! ... Update, 4/2 - please visit my website if you would like to see the article but cant access a copy of Aurora: https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/exhibitions_media.html

03.01.2022 Not exactly a rare little bird, the New Holland Honeyeater, but this one is in response to a customer request for me to paint a favourite in her garden - and how could I refuse, when they are so delightfully naughty? :) The painting came out well - sometimes, they just 'work', and this one did. It went off to Down South Arts and Crafts this morning https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/watercolours.html

03.01.2022 Weve just got a new Arts & Crafts local Collective up and running! See FB@downsouthartsandcrafts :)Weve just got a new Arts & Crafts local Collective up and running! See FB@downsouthartsandcrafts :)

02.01.2022 My family of sweet little Honey Possums has finally emerged from the shadows for a feed... Taken a while, this one, but we got there in the end! Just have to frame them now, then theyre off to Down South Arts and Crafts to look for a new home

02.01.2022 Friends, Ive come to the end of the line! Been doing some soul-searching lately (seemed like an appropriate time for it!) and Ive come to the conclusion that there are just not enough hours in the day! So, decision time... and Ive decided that I have to cut back on stuff, and focus on my environmental artwork. So I wont be making gemstone jewellery any more. I need to clear my stock and get my shelf space back. And with no markets around... This is your chance to snag ...a bargain or two! Im giving my friends first option on my Half-Price Gemstone Jewellery Sale, with items reduced to clear at only $5 - $15. These are new hand-made pieces, strung and ready to wear, and nicely packaged with name and qualities noted - with contactless delivery or mailing thrown in Plenty to choose from, so if youre interested please just visit my new, easy-to-use web-store: https://gailsgallery.weebly.com///Gemstone_Jewellery.html See more

01.01.2022 Been busy making some more Picture Pendants to fill orders today, which was nice. I make these with miniature prints from my paintings, which I mount in various colour bezels, with a glass dome. Small round are 27 mm @ $15, large oval are 32 x 42 mm @ $20 (postage is free). Im also working on a Queen of Sheba orchid painting - should finish that this weekend, so I feel truly back on track now :) ... Still no idea what will happen with Art Trail this year, though... :( And... Kudos to Australia Post, who delivered my 3 paintings to NSW in record time - posted last Wednesday - 2 arrived safely on Saturday, and 1 on Monday! Hope everyone is staying safe and well. Strange times...!! https://gailsgallery.weebly.com//p22/picture-pendants.html

01.01.2022 Ive been making my gemstone pendants for some time now, but recently decided to stop, as I seriously need more hours in the day - particularly with getting organised with our new Down South Arts and Crafts Gallery/Store! So... Im having an end-of-line half-price clearance sale. Some nice stones left, but this is it, guys - Very Last Chance! :) Prices are now only $5, $10 and $15 (inc.postage/delivery) All are nicely packaged, with the name and properties of the stone.... Lots more left, besides those shown here... Please see my website for details: https://gailsgallery.weebly.com///Gemstone_Jewellery.html See more

01.01.2022 Been a bit tied up lately with organising for 3 exhibitions at the same time! and feeling very depressed about our environment. So I decided to create a cheerful series painted in oils, based around my resident Rosella family - whose playful antics I can watch from my window as I sketch and paint them. They are a blessing! Finished this one today. As you can see, he was very naughty, and gave me a lot of trouble! But hopefully we got there in the end :) https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/oils.html

01.01.2022 So, it's all go here... 'Paradise / Lost' was bought by a really lovely lady while I was on roster at the SACT Exhibition this morning, which was great - it's always so nice to meet the person in person, and to know your child has found a good, loving home! So the painting has departed the VAC, and is already settled in to it's new home in Perth https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/

01.01.2022 Looking forward to the first CWA Markets on Saturday. I will be selling my wildlife Greeting Cards, Photographic Prints, Picture Pendants and Story Soaps, plus my Dichroic and Gemstone Jewellery - all hand-made, and at CWA Special prices :) CWA Hall is just off York Street in Serpentine Road, just up the road from Albany Farmers Market Western Australia in Collie Street, and the Repair Caf ~ Albany at Scotts Church in York Street... so why not plan a round trip, and make... a really nice Saturday out? Plenty of parking around CWAs newly-air-conditioned Hall, and a variety of interesting stalls inside, with drinks and restrooms provided... Whats not to like? :) Come in and see us there on Saturday! **And please Share, so everyone gets to know...** https://gailsgallery.weebly.com/store/c1/Online_Store
