24.01.2022 EDUCATION WEEK- Care for Cut Flowers If you have bought cut flowers from Abigail's before you probably remember us mentioning to cut the stems on an angle before putting them into water. When stems are out of water, air enters the xylem vessels of the flower. These not only impede water uptake but in many flowers such as roses, these air bubbles can cause drooping flowers when they reach the heads. Cutting stems 3-5cm up reduce the chance of this occurring and cutting on an a...ngle allows more water uptake. We are also now stocking Fleur Vital sachets which contain flower food to keep your blooms looking beautiful for longer. These are free to every customer purchasing cut flowers for a vase. The ideal way to keep your flowers healthy for longer is cutting the stems on an angle, and mixing flower food and a little bit of bleach (to kill bacteria) in the water. Change the water every couple of days and cut the stems.

Today I would like to share our little library. One project I took up recently was expanding the resources we could utilise to get industry relevant information. One of the most fundamental elements to success in business, and indeed a key responsibility of a business, is EDUCATION. Businesses must teach staff the skills r...equired to succeed at their trade and spread learning to their clients so they walk away with more than just a product. In a floristry environment, written resources help translate the method to creating designs and products and also provide inspiration for news ways of utilising plant materials.

03.01.2022 For today's education week post we would like to share what Oasis Floral foam is and how it works. Here at Abigail Flowers we predominantly sell fresh flower displays and so we use green floral foam mostly. To use Oasis floral foam you first cut it to the size and shape you need and then soak it by placing it in a bucket of water. The Oasis block sucks up the water and so provides a constant water supply to the fresh flowers, keeping your flowers fresher for longer.
