24.01.2022 Very happy to bring this fun night back. I used to love this as a kid.
24.01.2022 Last week TPDD CEO Tara addressed a group of destinations at the Ecotourism Australia ECO Destination Information Session. Tara shared the journey that Douglas... Shire has embarked on to become the first certified destination and what plans are ahead to for the process of continuous improvement. Destination around Australia, New Zealand and Oceania have since signed up to become certified and were interested in the learnings from the Douglas Shire. This is an important part of the destinations story that will be front and centre at this weeks Inbound Up North meetings as more travellers are seeking sustainable travel options. Douglas Chamber of Commerce l Douglas Shire Council
23.01.2022 Celebrating NAIDOC week.
22.01.2022 This is great news for Cairns and Port Douglas. I would like to see this available in the rest of the shire as there are many businesses located in Mossman that would also benefit.
19.01.2022 This is my second post about the Ferry - Bridge debate. Once again it is to promote thoughts about unanswered questions. 2. What are the full costs-immediate and long term? The options report cost estimates for a bridge are for a pier and beam concrete bridge like that in the Bloomfield River. ...Continue reading
17.01.2022 To Ferry or to Bridge-That is the Question? The public are being asked for their opinions on 2 principle options to cross the Daintree River. A solar powered 2-ferry option or a concrete bridge. In my opinion, The Options Report presented by Council is insufficient in its content and lacks key facts, data, questions and information, for these reasons I voted against what was presented. ...Continue reading
16.01.2022 Another story about great Douglas people!
13.01.2022 Thanks so much for the update. I love the efforts that FNM are doing to ‘help yourselves’! Well done.
13.01.2022 The Netflix series, Dive Club, which is being filmed in Port Douglas over the coming months is now casting for extras. If you or anyone you know is interested in being a part of the filming, then follow the instructions below and send your name, age, contact details and headshot to [email protected]... Please feel welcome to pass this on to your networks.
12.01.2022 What a full filled week. Well done Mossman Youth Club!
11.01.2022 Sister Therese Masterson from Mossman. Whoever went to St. Augustine’s in the 70’s would remember her sister (biological) who was also a nun and teacher at the school, Sister Irene. The Masterson house is still in Johnston Rd and many people who were educated at St. Augustine’s primary school would know this important Douglas family.
10.01.2022 This shall be the last post with further information about the Ferry Vs Bridge. Remember, DO NOT BE COMPLACENT! Put in a vote, it is vitally important. 6. Are there increased economic opportunities with the options? Household income will having a bridge result in more people over the Daintree having a job? Answer is highly unlikely. This is because building a bridge will not result in excessive growth in businesses across the Daintree....Continue reading
09.01.2022 Great idea. Might be just a fun thing to do!
08.01.2022 We’re top of the list for when international travel finally resumes. Why, because of our Eco-credibility. I want to maintain that at all costs and these are the type of reasons why. Thanks again TPDD for your great work.
08.01.2022 Mossman Hospital mid 60’s. We had the ability to have birthing there back then but not now. This is by no means a reflection on the great abilities of the current staff.
08.01.2022 Wonderful, Thanks very much!!
07.01.2022 Another great story from Douglas. I remember the Gonsalves Family arriving in Port and being fascinated about their wandering lifestyle. Thanks for sharing Tina and Matt.
06.01.2022 Get in and have a look at our local talent.
04.01.2022 Some seriously depressing news today in such a beautiful day. But interestingly, staying at home because of covid did reduce CO 2 emissions.
03.01.2022 Our very own Douglas boy Karl Zammataro! Go Karl.
03.01.2022 Thanks for this information and that’s positive news.
02.01.2022 A nice little boost for Douglas plus I cannot wait to see it.
01.01.2022 Eco-Tourism is the way of the future. The first hotel in the region to achieve Ecotourism Australia’s Eco Destination Certificate, the hotel has been recognised for its strong environmental credentials, winning the Communities & Culture Award at the Sustainable Destinations Awards in March 2020, even before opening. We are excited to bring the extraordinary Fairmont brand to Australia and are confident that Fairmont Port Douglas will deliver a new level of luxury and sophistication to one of the country’s most glamorous resort towns, said Simon McGrath, Chief Operating Officer, Accor Pacific.
01.01.2022 Congratulations Port Shorts and Abi Muir. With that name it’s sure to be a success.
01.01.2022 There are very big mistruths about the Bloomfield Bridge history being put out by pro-bridgers that I am going to address. However, before I do that, the comparison between the Bloomfield Bridge and a proposed Daintree River bridge is absurd. The rivers are different, the Bloomfield River divides a town and there was already an existing causeway crossing the river. In February 2011 Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasi damaged the existing low level causeway (which was maintained by ...Continue reading
