24.01.2022 Fun and festivities last week with a pizza and movie night to celebrate the new crowning glory of a pair of beautiful awnings on the expansive rooftop terrace of Ability Apartments Guildford. Stretching across both north and south terraces, the awnings provide shade and rain cover to enhance the functionality of both spaces. Also installed is a massive new 85" flat screen TV, just in time for summer sporting events and carol sing-alongs making the space the perfect place to have a BBQ and have some fun!
15.01.2022 We still love this video about our former tenant Brenton who has since moved on to live with his new wife and family. See how his journey was impacted by living in Ability Apartments.
14.01.2022 MEET JAKE: I wouldn’t exactly call my house accessible. I do have a ramp up to my backdoor and a modified bathroom but I can only access certain areas of my home. It feels really weird to live somewhere you can’t actually get to. Even more weird is that it’s a LOT better than some of my friends’ situations. My name is Jake and I have Cerebral Palsy. I’m 26 years old and currently live with my Mum, stepdad, two brothers and our dog on the Central Coast. I’m finally going to b...e free though. Moving out and being able to live independently, is going to give me complete control over my decisions. It’s really important to me. If I don’t do something it’ll be all on me because I won’t have anyone else to blame or rely on and I can’t wait for that to happen. Even with all the work that went into this process, I still wasn’t sure if I would even get approved. Luckily, I didn’t have too much expectation anyway so I found the process semi-reasonable except for the not knowing. That was the worst. I had so many questions and there were just no answers or communication along the way. It was a long waiting process until my approval finally came through. Now I’m so excited but I do still worry about the unknown. I’m going to be moving out and I feel like I don’t really know anything about living alone. I’m really, really excited about integrating the assistive technology into my life. It will be so much easier to manage things day to day and it’s how the world is going these days. Plus, it’s a great help to people with disabilities. I feel like when I’m there, the sky will be the limit because I won’t be limited anymore in what I can do. I have heaps of hobbies. I love the Central Coast Mariners, talking, communicating, meeting new people, motivational speaking, watching TV, Netflix and cooking and I know that I’ll be able to do the all in my new apartment. 07.01.2022 WHAT. A. YEAR! Great effort everyone! #numbersspeakforthemselves #bigyear
07.01.2022 Frazer's huge smile is partly because he's a happy guy but mostly because he loves finishing an SDA project. And we couldn't have done it without the team at BCA Access Solutions giving us solid direction from beginning to end. Thanks BCA Access Solutions!
06.01.2022 Be on the lookout for some big announcements coming next week, but for now, here's a little sneak peek of our new Gosford Central building.
05.01.2022 A great video explaining SDA from our friends at Summer Foundation.
03.01.2022 A recipe for happiness The heart of family life is often the kitchen. It’s a place where love is manifested as meals which not only sustain, but also spice up life and cook up memories. This is the way it was in Maria’s kitchen....Continue reading
02.01.2022 Bushfires, floods and a global pandemic aside, 2020 has been a big year for all of us at Ability SDA. 2020 was the year that we opened 31 new SDA apartments that have been years in the making. It’s been so rewarding seeing our buildings open in Villawood and Gosford and to see our tenants across all four of our developments thriving. We’re a small team at Ability SDA, and I’d like to thank each and every person in that team for their incredible work ethic and commitment ...to doing what we do. For all of us, it has been a privilege to be able to provide life-changing accommodation to people who not only need it, but so thoroughly deserve it. Just as these apartments have impacted our tenants lives in such a meaningful way, so too have they impacted our lives. For both of us, it has been the most rewarding work of our careers. We feel truly blessed to have gotten to know all of our tenants and their families and we are incredibly proud of them for the leap of faith they’ve taken to move into their Ability Apartments. Their tenacity and courage in navigating the NDIS system and persevering through the many challenges it presents is nothing short of admirable and certainly paves the way for other people with disability to follow in their footsteps. From all of us at Ability SDA, we wish you all a wonderfully healthy, happy and socially distanced Christmas and New Year! We look forward to another fantastic year in 2021 as our tenants continue to go from strength to strength in their new homes and we can’t wait to hear all your silly season stories in the new year. Best regards, Paul and Angie Simmons
01.01.2022 It's amazing to see our tenants moving into this new chapter in their lives in their very own apartments but especially heart-warming to see five of our tenants moving out of hospital. Five people who had long term stays in hospital because their only other option was residential aged care. Until now. Ability Apartments offers people with high physical support needs the opportunity to live a more independent life in their own purpose-built apartment. From a hospital bed to a whole apartmentwhat a transformation in these peoples lives! This is truly an extraordinary move that will be life changing for these residents. We cant wait to see them flourish in their new homes surrounded by family and friends especially in the lead up to the holidays.
