15.01.2022 TIME FOR 24-HOUR POLICING IN MURWILLUMBAH? Questions are being asked about policing levels after a fatal stabbing in Murwillumbah. A 46-year-old man died and an... 18-year-old man is in a critical condition with wounds to his chest after a brawl in Knox Park early yesterday afternoon. A witness told the ABC she called the Murwillumbah Police Station, but was transferred to Tweed Heads. Former Tweed councillor Phil Youngblutt said the police presence in the town had dwindled. "I haven't seen a police around the street for ages," he said. "I'm not there all the time but I do get into town several times a week, and I haven't seen a policeman on the street [for] years now. "There's no doubt that there are less police in this area. "In a growing area with a high population I think we deserve better. "It's bad enough in Murwillumbah, I mean you've got say 20 minutes for police to get there. "But what about Tyalgum and Uki, the west of the Tweed where there is quite a reasonable population? "You're looking at half an hour or 45 minutes for police to get there if there's an incident."
