24.01.2022 BLOOD DONORS URGENTLY NEEDED | Many of you or your loved ones would have received a transfusion of blood, platelets or plasma during your treatment at Concord Hospital. Did you know, that we will need nearly 30,000 blood and plasma donations every week to maintain the necessary supply of life saving blood during the Coronavirus pandemic? The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood needs an additional 14,000 blood donors to make an appointment over the coming weeks to prevent shortage...s. So, how can you help? If you and your loved ones are feeling well and have not travelled overseas in the last 28 days, please consider making an urgent blood donation. Go to www.donateblood.com.au to make an appointment to donate. There are nearly a dozen mobile blood donor centres around the Concord area. Your help is urgently needed - help save lives.

23.01.2022 FOUNDATION BOARD MEETS FACE TO FACE AGAIN! | After many months apart due to COVID-19, the Board of Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause met yesterday face to face! The purpose was our annual Strategic Planning Workshop - preparing our roadmap for the work that we do, supporting the world-leading blood cancer clinical trials at Concord Hospital so that even more patients with blood cancers can access life-saving, innovative medicines. It was wonderful to see each other in person after all these months, rejuvenate, reconnect and focus on our bloody great cause! It was also wonderful to use our new iPads and keyboards for the first time! This technology was made possible through the Volunteer Grant secured through the support of Fiona Martin MP. Thank you once again!

19.01.2022 WHAT MAKES A HAEMATOLOGIST HAPPY? A CHEQUE FOR $200,000! | World-leading haematologists Professor Judith Trotman, Associate Professor Ilona Cunningham and Dr Jane Estell could not contain their delight when they were presented with a cheque for $200,000! These funds will go towards their life saving, blood cancer clinical trials at Concord Hospital and they couldn't be happier! It means even more patients can access innovative medicines and have a greater hope for a cure. The funds were presented by the Chair of Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause Limited, Marie Piccin and her fellow Directors. With sincere thanks to all the members of The Bloody Great Committee who were instrumental in raising these funds over the past 12 months.

13.01.2022 $4,200 VOLUNTEER GRANT SECURED! | It's not everyday you get a call from Fiona Martin MP, but what a wonderful surprise to receive her call and to be told our application under the Volunteer Grants program has been successful! $4,200 has been secured to purchase IT equipment to support our volunteers when they are on the ground fundraising for our bloody great cause - the world leading blood cancer clinical trials at Concord Hospital. Thanks Fiona Martin for your support whi...ch will ensure our volunteers are well equipped and super effective when they are rolling up their sleeves to help us raise funds. 06.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS TO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR ILONA CUNNINGHAM | Please join us in congratulating Associate Professor Ilona Cunningham on her appointment as Clinical Director Cancer Services and Palliative Care for Sydney Local Health District (Concord Hospital, RPA and Lifehouse). In her new role, Ilona will continue to improve Haematology, Cancer and Palliative Care Services across the District and lead the planning and commissioning of the new Cancer Centre at Concord Hospital i...n 2021. Ilona is a much loved Director of Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause Limited and a member of The Bloody Great Committee and we wish her all the best in this new role. A number of Ilona's patients will now be taken care of by one of her Haematology colleagues, who will make sure all patients continue to receive the best care possible. If your arrangements are going to change, you will be notified before your next clinic appointment.

01.01.2022 OUR FABULOUS FOURSOME! | We're delighted to announce that the new Chair of The Bloody Great Committee is Susan MacGregor! Susan is well known to many of you, as she has been fundraising for the Haematology Clinical Trials Unit at Concord Hospital since 2009 and was a founding member of The Bloody Great Committee in 2013, delivering successful fundraising events since that time. Susan first met the formidable Prof Judith Trotman, Head of Concord Haematology, when her son Ewan ...was diagnosed with a rare blood and skin cancer. Ewan has participated in a few clinical trials and Susan is grateful for the ongoing treatment and care he is receiving, which is keeping him alive today. Susan's employer, Warwick Williams Real Estate, has been a strong supporter of our bloody great cause as a result and Susan is forever grateful to Warwick Williams for giving her time off to fundraise, supporting her with resources at work, as well as sponsoring events and making regular donations, even after Susan has left the business! Local legend Marie Piccin, the most recent Chair of The Bloody Great Committee, remains as Chair of Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause Limited - and what a dynamic duo they will make, with support from their fellow Foundation Directors and members of the Committee.
