20.01.2022 Greetings! A quick e-reminder to members about tonight’s ABODA National Digital Drinks (7.00 pm AEST) that we’ve been promoting as a National ABODA initiative (and co-hosted by Yamaha). The Facebook link is here: https://www.facebook.com/amanda.morrison.399/posts/10157281528671417 The plan is a forum to look at and discuss some of the issues we face with the road back after COVID-19. I’m planning to cover ways we can be best advocates for our programs to make sure they d...on’t get pushed aside in the rush to make up for lost time in other academic areas as well as recent research regarding health concerns as related to ensemble activities. 07.01.2022 South Australia was fortunate to have jazz doyenne Don Burrows resident in SA for 6 months in the late 70’s due to the influence and connections of Eric Bryce. Don spent a semester teaching at Salisbury CAE and Sturt CAE. This influence has percolated through music educators for decades. Sadly Don Burrows has passed and the ABODA SA committee decided to acknowledge his influence by creating an award for the Best Emerging Jazz Soloist in the SA School Band and Orchestra Festival 2020 in his name. The successful recipient this year is Wil Davies (Pembroke School). Wil receives the Memorial award and a prize of 3 x 60 minute jazz improv lessons with Adelaide’s own Adam Page. Congratulations Wil!

07.01.2022 Hi ABODA SA members! Many of us are faced with challenges surrounding online Instrumental Music Teaching and online Ensemble Rehearsals. Renowned conductor; Ingrid Martin ( Melbourne) is getting on top of this and has already delivered a good online session sponsored by AMEB. Tomorrow evening ( Thursday) she is going to do a free online session including a Q and A that many will find interesting and valuable. Please her info below; ... Like me, you've probably had your world turned upside down - with no clear path ahead. Had your gigs all cancelled? Me too. Suddenly navigating leading and teaching online with little training or experience? Me too. Missing all your ensemble members? Me too. Home schooling kids and trying to work from home? Me too. Yet in this incredibly challenging time, we have the opportunity to not just survive, but thrive. (More on that...) We're all going to be doing a lot of learning and experimenting over the next weeks and months. Which is great for putting us back in the shoes of those we lead - especially if we haven't sat on the other side of a podium for a while. I want to help us all do well! So... I'm doing my best to share all I know (and some crazy new ideas I'm coming up with on the fly) to help us all navigate this time with creativity, positivity and openness. Whatever challenges you're facing, chances are another conductor is too! We're all in this together, so I'm running a 60 minute Facebook LIVE Q&A this Thursday 16 April, 8pm (AEST). I'd LOVE to see you over the inter webs and help you out! If it's useful, I'll do more. How does it work? Add to your calendar. (Will auto-convert to your local time zone) Click the link in your calendar and join us on Facebook. You can also use this link. You can ask questions via typed chat and I'll answer them live! What if I can't make it? If you can't be there in person send your question via email or Facebook messenger to the Conducting Artistry Page. The video will be saved and available on the Conducting Artistry page immediately after the event. Want More Resources? I've written a bunch of new blog posts on activities you can do with your ensembles, as well as my thoughts on Responding to the Unexpected. Watch the replay of my Online Ensemble Teaching webinar with AMEB, and download your free eBook 'Ensemble Online Basics' via Teachable. Check out the Conducting Artistry YouTube channel for a host of activities you can do with your ensemble students for #rehearsalhomealone like the video below. Got a question, need advice? Email me.
