24.01.2022 Such a great community project! Juluum-nyarr gaagal-gu the theme chosen by Gumbaynggirr Elders for the youth-led wall art and large-scale weaving art you see in the hospital walkway, representing the three communities of Bowraville, Macksville and Nambucca Heads and the significance of the mountains, freshwater and saltwater to the Gumbaynggirr people. https://www.nbnnews.com.au//collaborative-art-project-bri/

23.01.2022 This is a timelapse video showing the installation of the large wall artwork in the new Macksville Hospital. Fourteen artworks sharing stories of culture and the theme ‘Juluum-nyarr gaagal-gu’ (Mountains to the Sea), were selected from more than 60 artworks created by Aboriginal high school students attending Nambucca Heads High School, Macksville High School and Bowraville Central School. Workshops were held in each of the schools, facilitated by local Gumbaynggirr artists a...nd with mentoring from Gumbaynggirr Elders. These artworks were used to create this stunning contemporary artwork seen on the opposite wall. This project was coordinated and developed by the National Aboriginal Design Agency (a social enterprise run by Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance) in partnership with Mid North Coast Local Health District and Health Infrastructure. 21.01.2022 Exciting news yesterday as Melinda Pavey, Minsiter for Roads, Transport and Freight announced the new Busbot that will be operating along the northern breakwall in Coffs Harbour. Busways approached the National Aboriginal Design Agencyl to develop a contemporary Aboriginal design for the vehicle. We worked with Aboriginal students from Coffs Harbour High School who created artworks based on stories shared by Gumbaynggirr Elders Aunty Elaine Turnbull and Uncle Mark Flanders. S...ix artworks were then selected in a blind selection process to be developed into a collated graphic design for placement on the Busways trial AV telling the stories of Gumbaynggirr culture with particular focus on Mutton-bird Island (Giidany Miirlarl Gumbaynggirr for moon special place; Coffs Harbour) and the local totems. NADA worked with Nanette from saso.creative for the final design that you see on the vehicle. What a fun project with such great outcomes for the young people involved.

19.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC Week! To celebrate, we are showcasing some of our amazing Indigenous Australians in our design community. National Aboriginal Design Agency... The National Aboriginal Design Agency (NADA) is a unique organisation established in 2012 born out of the need to develop and champion a sustainable and authentic Aboriginal design industry in Australia. The idea was originally conceived by Alison Page, a designer herself and the then executive officer of Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance. Alison wanted to create a design-based business that would create an income stream for Aboriginal artists plus create a solid licensing structure that would protect both the artist and the client "We are a social enterprise and the commercial arm of the Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance (SWFW), a not-for-profit organisation governed by ten Local Aboriginal Land Councils, from Karuah to Coffs Harbour on the NSW Mid North Coast. Our clients include retailers, architects, designers, galleries/museums, large corporations, Aboriginal business, not-for profits, and government organisations or businesses interested in meaningful Aboriginal design." https://nationalaboriginaldesignagency.com.au/ #NAIDOC #NAIDOCWEEK #NAIDOC2020

11.01.2022 NADA and Saltwater Freshwater Arts are very excited to share this announcement of the new artwork installed into the new Macksville Hospital. We were engaged by Health Infrastructure and Mid North Coast Health to develop a large wall artwork and the three large weaving working with the Macksville, Nambucca and Bowraville communities. WALL ARTWORK: art workshops for Aboriginal youth were held at Macksville High School, Nambucca Heads High School and Bowraville Central School ...for facilitated by local Gumbaynggirr artists and supported by Gumbaynggirr Elders, a number of the artworks were selected to be included in the large wall artwork for the hospital, with the youth artists paid a license fee and the opportunity to see their work in a large scale installation in the new hospital. WEAVING ARTWORK: stage two was the weaving art, design concepts developed by weavers; Aunty Lauren Jarrett, Jasmine Stadhams and Denise BUchanan with support from Ricky Buchanan, local high schools, the Bowraville womens group, CWA Macksville branch and other community. The metal frames made by artist/sculptor/maker John Van Der Kolk. Three large artworks all inspired by the theme Juluum-nyarr gaagal-gu (from the Mountain to the Sea) - Yarriabini (Yarrahappini Mountain) and Muurrbay Bundani (tree of life); Jibaanga (waterhole) and freshwater creatures with Gawnggan (Brolga), mother of Birrugan and wife of Yuludarla; Gurruuja (whale) mother and baby.
