06.01.2022 Reported Health benefits of native plant species: Quandong (Santalum acuminatum) Health benefits targeted in the first systematic evaluation of thirteen native Australian fruits, for antioxidant capacity and the presence of the following compounds: phenolic compounds, carotenoids, vitamin C, vitamin E, provitamin A, folate and selected minerals: Zn, Mg, Ca, Fe, Se, P, Na, K, Mn, Cu and Mo. Quandong was and still is an important native food source for Australian Indigenous pe...ople in wide- ranging semi-arid and arid regions of all Australian mainland states for millennia. Commercialisation began 30 years ago and since 1973 CSIRO Australia is researching improved commercial cultivars. RIRDC, the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation views this crop as one of the most important native food crops currently being developed and has committed core funds for further research. Quandong has been identified in this report as a rich source of phenolic-based antioxidants and is the richest source of minerals: Zn, Mg, Ca, Fe and Mo among native foods. The level of vitamin E in Quandong is comparable with that of avocado ‘Hass’. Quandong contains folate with 50% of the recommended daily intake in 100g DW (i.e almost 3 times higher than Blueberry). High antioxidant capacity of Quandong combined with the presence of vitamin E, folate and essential minerals warrants further studies towards identification of potential health-enhancing properties. There is no substitute to the health and wellbeing benefits for collecting Quandong as a cultural activity on country for personal consumption and use. Traditional practise of managing country and taking, using and consuming resources on country each contribute to health and wellbeing for Aboriginal people. Increasingly new enterprises, like The Australian Superfood Co, are springing up that take fruits like quandong and create health foods products, bringing these ancient super foods into the lives of people who cannot or do not have the opportunity to visit country and harvest during the seasons. The Australian Superfood Co has created a unique range of food products richly infused with Australian native bush food; a powerful, diverse and exciting superfood group, which has not been given its due recognition. The Australian Superfood Co celebrates native Australian produce in its creation of the Australian Bush Food Product Range. Aboriginal healing shares some of these products for our community to share the experience and health benefits of these fruits from country (we will earn commission if you purchase any of these items).

05.01.2022 Join Kado Muir as he offers his thoughts and observations on the multiplicity of factors bearing down on how Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander people's engage with ecological transformations outside of the control. Australia's Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander people's are not strangers to climate change. Major climatic events in Australia's prehistory were backdrops to the occupation and emergence of the various Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander cultures. This in...terchange between humans and the climate is represented in the archaeological record of Australia, particularly in the form of rock art paintings tools and evidence of occupation. That record lays out a scientific narrative showing how people adapted to changes in ecological systems for instance the development of harvesting grass seeds and the production of flour through the use of mortar and pestle grinding stones commences at the end of the pleistocene era ice age and beginning of the Holocene era. The adaptation to new foods resulted in the uptake of different health and well-being and observance of spirituality and customs. Today Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander people's are faced with ecological emergencies, the first is as the result of dispossession of land and it's subsequent transformation through farming, mining and other human impacts. These impacts has resulted in a reduction in ecological integrity which directly correlates back to a reduction in Aboriginal health and well-being. Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander people are responding to these impacts through actions to prevent large scale mining activities like the Carmichael Basin project in Queensland and in the Torres strait people are having serious discussions about rising sea levels. Climate change is not new to Australia's indigenous people's unfortunately they have little opportunity to engage with the solutions and how in the past people were able to adapt and survive today the future is bleak.

02.01.2022 The most powerful Aboriginal Healing method has always been prevention. Traditional lifestyles were healthy with clean air, exercise and natural foods. COVID-19 is one of those new threats to health. Aboriginal people suffered like many other indigenous peoples from the introduction of "exotic" diseases like influenza, leprosy, small pox, STD's. Whole communities were decimated throughout Australia and in some cases germ warfare was used to depopulate land, leading to assert...ions of and empty land or terra nullius, by the colonizers. Today the COVID-19 pandemic represents a modern day threat to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. In this first wave of responses communities are isolating and educating on prevention. Here is a video spreading that word.

01.01.2022 Welcome to Aboriginal Healing Australia, where we bring news, products and insights into Aboriginal healing energies. Check out this research from the Healing Foundation, in their words: "This review summarises existing research on healing internationally and nationally, highlighting what constitutes an effective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healing process. This evidence enables the identification of what constitutes an effective healing program and the gaps in our... knowledge that can inform future evaluation and research priorities. The literature revealed that to be successful, a healing program needs to be created within the local context; respond to needs identified by local community members and be supported by the local community. Sustainability needs to be multi-level and include development and transfer of knowledge and resources. This includes strong evaluation frameworks that are consistent with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander world view. The literature review has provided an inter-country context for healing that clearly demonstrates what constitutes an effective healing program; the interface between healing and health and the need for quality evaluations that incorporate Aboriginal knowledge systems. The depth of this material enables the Healing Foundation to identify a clear pathway to building and developing the evidence of healing into the future." https://healingfoundation.org.au//Aboriginal-and-Torres-St
