Your blood sugar levels usually return to normal soon after delivery, but if you’ve had gestational diabetes, you do have a higher risk of getting type 2 diabet...es. To keep on top of it you’ll need to be tested for changes in blood sugar more often. A few facts about gestational diabetes: - Gestational diabetes is the most common medical problem in pregnancy affecting 5-9% of pregnancies. - Gestational diabetes is easily diagnosed with a two-stage process. A test is usually performed at 24-28 weeks gestation using a glucose test that requires a blood test 60 minutes after drinking a liquid oral glucose load.
