24.01.2022 It's BEE season! As the weather becomes warmer, bee hives start swarming. A new queen will take around half of the existing colony with her to setup shop in new digs. If you see a swarm, don't panic! They will have a belly full of honey, and are very docile. A swarm may rest as they scout out a new location to start building, and are commonly spotted on tree branches or fence posts. ... Steer clear of them, and give us a call. We are firm believers of the importance of bees, and don't consider a swarm a 'pest' that needs to be destroyed. No bees = no pollination = no food. Instead we try wherever possible to capture the swarm and re-hive them instead. The pics below are from a swarm we captured in Belmont yesterday afternoon. With no empty hives available to take, and a larger than expected swarm, a MacGuyver moment with a plastic storage tub was required. This was a pretty big swarm, estimated between 8 - 10k bees! If you have bees, we have options beyond killing them. Call 0477010370 for info.

20.01.2022 Did you know today is #WorldBeeDay ? Here's a little bee-bum for your viewing pleasure! Australia is home to around 2000 species of native bees, and the vast majority of them are solitary species. ... This little beauty was heard before she was seen, they have a distinct buzz that I think sets them apart. This photo was taken in a customers yard in Newtown, and her salvia plants were filled with them! , Blue-Banded Bee

10.01.2022 Sparrows never cease to amaze me! They are such industrious little birds, and will return to the same nesting location each year. This particular nest has my size 5 boot sitting on top for scale. Six garbage bags were filled with nesting material, from just this one nest. Pest birds nesting in roof and wall cavities attract rodents, and are also a fire risk.... Note the nesting material built up around one of the light fittings here! Once the chicks leave the nest, bird mites left behind can migrate down into the living spaces of your home. Birds and their doppings also run the risk of over 60 transmittable diseases and infections, including salmonella and hiptoplasmosis. We can remove birds and nests in your roof, and proof the entry points against future incursions. An initial appointment for an inspection and quote is free of charge. Call us on 0477 010 370 to secure your appointment.
